boXXer Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 need a electric fan kit for me car, and was wondering what one to go for. Its for a mk1 escort. Both companies are local to me, so i might go and get one tomorrow. Cheers Mike
w p e Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 both as good as each other. prices differ slightly but both fine
GT_Jim Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 i use a 15" pacet on the cortina and its been 100% reliable as for a differnce im not sure, but check the dimensions of the fans and how much room you have before you buy
boXXer Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 Cheers chaps. might just drive the car down there and let them measure it up, as they aint too far away. Wanye: That diff didnt turn up today. Should be tomorrow. I'll let ya know either way.
boXXer Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 also, to add.... at the moment, i have a constant fan bolted the the water pump pulley, and whether im ragging the car, or sitting in traffic, the temperature is ALWAYS at 80 degrees. Now, as i dont have any over heating issues, would i benefit from changing to a electric fan? one thing i do notice though, it that the engine takes FOREVER to heat up in the mornings...
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 youve maybe already checked but is the thermostat working correctly
texr2000 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I got the Pacet one that come with my alloy rad from JMC. When it comes on the temp drops well quick! Think its 12" When i was running the 1300 engine and using it everyday changed to a kenlowe elec cos i had the same thing never seemed to warm up to well in the winter, and in the summer if the temp looked to be getting a little high nothin really u could do, but the elec one on and was better alround
GT_Jim Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 i had a constant fan before and when i changed to the electric one it was on a basic on off switch, i hardly used it and the car never overheated it always stayed at N which it never did before and warming her up was alot quicker with less choke
escort21 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Less choke = running lean = gets hot quickly..
w p e Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 3-4 hp gain without fixed fan some say up to 7hp has less drag on the engine
Muttley MK2 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Electric fans are generally used to extend water pump life and release some small amounts of horsepower. They are not really any better at cooling unless you increase the size relative to the fixed one.
Twinkle Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 i have a 12" one on the 4 door and its bloody brilliant, cools down really quickly when it cuts in especially now its wired up the right way!!!
PIG Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 got 2 kenlowes on mine mike,10" and a 9" the cfm is now 3800 .the fella at kenlowes loves the cash deal as well m8
boXXer Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 got 2 kenlowes on mine mike,10" and a 9" the cfm is now 3800 .the fella at kenlowes loves the cash deal as well m8 does he??? thats interesting! gunna pop down there in a bit. Hows the old beast BTW? Now, do i get a blower, or a sucker type fan? Cheers for your help peeps.
swampy-capri Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I have been doing some digging around on the leccy fan front. I have allways had cooling issues with the chevy. Originaly i had a kenlow big ass 16" single fan that turned out to be incapable of keeping the V8 cool in traffic. With the fan running the temp would rapidly climb to over 120 degrees. Binned that one and chucked in as a tempoary measure. a twin fan set up off a cosworth. Again these still struggled to keep it cool in traffic. After a bit of digging i found out that both the kenlow single and the twin cosworth fans only moved 1800cfm of air I have now found a company call SPAL. they do fans, rad and fan combos everything to keep a motor cool. I now looking at a rad and fan combo with shroud that has twin 13" fans that pull a shocking 1600cfm each Along with the state of the art electronic fan controller, i have worked out that this combo is well capable of cooling a 500bhp v8 in 80 degree air temp to a cool 90 degrees water temp... Better still i have found a company in america that can supply me with the whole kit for half the price this robbing Bstard country can. And that includes shipping. My order will be going in shortly.....
swampy-capri Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 sorry, my fat fingers stoped working for a while. The spal fans moved 1900cfm
boXXer Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 do you have a link for them mate?
swampy-capri Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 www.spalusa.com this is the tank site, but there is uk distributors.
