cossieglen Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 What make of foam filter did you have for it Gaz? Steve Broughton runs ITG's on his engines, with no reduction in power, and that's what Matt always ran on his cossie too.
chris@torque of the devil Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 think it is ITG on Gary's car, but i think its the proximity of the trumpets to the filter causing the issue
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 It's a Jenvey foam type filter but it's the same as ITG/pipercross etc etc jobs . Perhaps it is just too close to the trumpets (approx 15 mm away) and restricting the air into the engine (Chris and Wayne said the same thing on Saturday) but as the whole front and sides is foam i presumed it would work ok . It's got an alloy mesh type stiffner to keep it's shape across the whole front area so maybe it's that . The original one they sent me was huge and wouldn't fit (as usual ) so this one was a compromise that's now chucked in the boot !!!!!!!
Toby Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Toby i'll definatley be getting one of those big valve heads later on . I just need to get the money first though as no doubt it will end up costing about £2000 by the time you get all the bits that go with it (head gasket set , re-do engine mapping , replace studs/threads that will snap or round off etc etc ) . On second thoughts it sounds like grief so maybe i won't bother !!!!!!! All the time there's poo in your pants when you get home from a blast I recon you've got enough power!!
SmokeEm Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 run mine without filters gaz sounds so much better Get some filters on it now Mark! - Don't want you filling the engine up with dust before I make you an offer you can't refuse for it now do I ..... might put the K&N's back on for the winter but i thought you wanted to turbo it anyway I do indeed.. I'll take ya pinto out & get a 400bhp YB in instead Your car WILL be mine.... - then you can buy your MK1 Tina

chris@torque of the devil Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 run mine without filters gaz sounds so much better The thing is getting the air filter to fit cost me lots of time and money because i had to get spacers made so the backplate missed the fuel injectors , then i tried about 3 different combinations of air boxes/filters etc and after all that grief it's lost me lots of power . I wish i hadn't bothered now but i would really like an air filter on the engine in an ideal world Here's the dyno plot from last month which was recorded without the air filter fitted . that's great figues gaz just done a bit of vintage maths on your cars graph gary based on torque. torque x rpm ----------------- 5252 so..... on your graph at the peak power rpm of 7100 you made 158 lbs/ft torque, divided by 5252 equals 213.59 bhp, so 1 bhp adrift!
Toby Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Chris - I would hope that would be right - your road (which for the record I believe to be about bang on - I am going to change my readers rides page now ) measures the wheel torque and then multiplys that by the internal computer using your equation in the back ground to plot the power curve doesn't it? If it didn't agree with it's self I would be worried!!

chris@torque of the devil Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Think he just fancied a beer mate!
Toby Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Think he just fancied a beer mate! You're new to this! Although it could have been a cover up of a double post!! It's what I do!
