i clamp the head in the vice and then wire brush all the threads then flip em over same on the head, then grease the thread part up.

 

you can etch prime and paint em when fitted too if its on show

If they are only oily and not rusty and If you have an understanding wife/girlfriend....chuck them in a very thick sock in the washin machine on a boil wash with lots of Bold 2 in 1!

I've heard of the washing machine trick but never seen the finished product, it sure does work well!!! I have soaked overnight in petrol and that worked really well, then following day rinsed off and brushed with a wire brush.

get a machine mart degreaser, they dont cost much and soak em in that then i clean them more on the wire wheel on the bench grinder, it does flick em across the garage sometimes though :D:ykt:
