bmxdave Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I need a quick car (dont we all) but i dont know what to do now. I was going to buy the 16v cortina but it needed too much bodywork. Im very tempted (to the point of getting ready to order parts) in doing an XE conversion to my cortina. But i dont know if i want the hassle really. Im fed up of using my Dads car, and not being aloud to abuse it. But i dont want to just jump into anything, and i dont think the 1600 crossflow in the cortina is going to be enough, and instead of tuning the 1600 id rather spend the money and effort on the XE for better results. The car doesnt nesicerily (sp?) have to be OSF either, but it needs to be rwd and it has to be quick, around 8 seconds to 60. Id go 2.8 capri but my insurance laughs at this idea. I have a budget of about £3000 but i could maybe stretch to more. I dont wanna spend more then £1000 a year on insurance, which isnt too big a problem now. I know its a tight one but does anyone have any suggestions? Or know anyone selling something like an XE powered car, maybe even a half finished project?
Muttley MK2 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Surely a tuned and or modified car will cost more on the insurance than a 2.8i. I just sold a sierra 2.0 dohc 8v and that was no slouch 125bhp and rwd, cheap too
Admin Vista Posted November 12, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 12, 2007 I'm gonna stick my neck out here by suggesting a non OSF but have you considered one of these? They're definitely old skool and there's plenty of room under the bonnet for a big lump. They don't cost anything like an equivalent escort to buy. Question is, do you want a project car though? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vauxhall-firenza- ... dZViewItem And here's what it could look like, V8 too

And in my opinion and XE is meant for a Vauxhall and no a Ford
bmxdave Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 Surely a tuned and or modified car will cost more on the insurance than a 2.8i. I just sold a jelly mould 2.0 dohc 8v and that was no slouch 125bhp and rwd, cheap too I found out the other week that there is a sort of set price for the car on my insurance. They dont ask specifics. So the insurance would cost the same whether i fitted an XE or a Chevy LS1. That Firenza is mint! And the one on ebay would be ripe for an XE! I guess itd be a big project though, and i dont want to be going too deep into resto work, and then having to sort out the handling too.
GT_Jim Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 i was thinking this about my mk1 but im going to zetec it, im in no rush to finish her but i do miss driving a classic about though
bmxdave Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 Im just fed up of being slow and not being in my own car. Im a bit of a speed nut so it has to be quick.
mossy Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 dont really understand what your asking... you dont want to xe your cortina, but you will take on a project and xe that...??? Why not just xe the cortina to start with?
bmxdave Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 I want to XE the cortina, but id rather pick something up with the conversion done just needing bodywork or the like. If i dont find anything ill just XE the cortina.
