Essex Boy Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Does anyone here have a welded diff on their old skool fords?? do you use said car every day ? pro's and cons please as i'm considering having it done but i use my car every day but still want drift fun (everyday) been warned by MOT tested that on cornering the stress on the half shafts can make them snap Help....
LEONMEX Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I ran a welded diff on my car this year (4.1 ratio) & it drove ok on the road,it does stress the shafts more especially when slow cornering & reversing but i only broke a shaft or two when at the pod on slicks doing 6000rpm launches it will make it VERY tail happy in the dry & even worse in the wet so unless you are 110% happy hanging the back out don't do it. But for the grin factor
Col-ashtonmobile Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 just dont try and reverse round tight corners
Essex Boy Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 Its a 1.6 Capri axle 5 speed type 9 box will be 2.0 pinto asap. I do want the tail happy handling its what RWD is all about Is a decent Capri LSD still pricey ? Looking at all options here
Ratters Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 there's a fairly lengthy thread on retrorides about welded diffs might be worth a look mate
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 welded diffs are not a problem on the road! If you manage to break a half shaft with a welded diff then it was on its way out anyway!
lead foot Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 i had a welded diff on my 2.8 capper, used it every day, it was sooooo much fun !!
Tom Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 BIG downside is understeer mate. I almost ended in a couple of ditches cos of it if you do it be careful - great fun tho
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 BIG downside is understeer mate. I almost ended in a couple of ditches cos of it if you do it be careful - great fun tho but enough power and a heavy right foot will soon sort that out
Essex Boy Posted November 15, 2007 Author Report Posted November 15, 2007 Cool So next question how much will it cost? and who could do it for me?
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Cool So next question how much will it cost? and who could do it for me? well if you bring it down to me I would do it for 20quid
