lol, think i might need a fuel tanker to follow me down there,

i think the constant noise from the car might give me a head ache :?

We do half the journey on toll roads and half on a roads, so makes it bit more interesting, not to mention that they have great emty roundabouts

Well Sam, i couldnt think of a better, more reliable, good looking motor to do the trip in...... not that i'm biased or anything!

Fair play... I've heard it's good and I know it's popular and a bit of a party n'all

Bet a fair few GT40's make the trip - do many other OSF's brave it...

I take it this is the normal Le Mans and not the classic Le Mans...?

We're going to the classic one. Travelling down from Leeds/Bradford in a Capri, Anglia Van, Lotus Elan and trailing at the back, an Austin Allegro....

If anyone is going to that, let us know. Perhaps we can get a convoy going.

yeh this is the normal one. never been to the classic, i bet thats a good weekend, think its a month or so after???

Not seen many oldskool fords there in the past, you seem to get loads of porsches and tvr's to ( mainly on recovery trucks ) :D

Samcos, where do you camp.

We (ERICS) are booked into maison blance between the ford and porche curves.

We are going on the wed early ferry to calais then back monday at 6pm

Dont think people realise its only 260m from calais or 175 from cherbourg, even less from Caan.

Ive done the trip in my mustang engined siera, skyline, a mates 67 mustang and next year my cossy anglia.

some good pics there fella, just about sums up the great atmosphere!

we camp ont the airfield, go through a organised company they cook our food, supply showers and toilets etc, makes life a little bit easier when your there for 5 days and its not at all expensive.

sierra1off,,, ill keep and eye out for your anglia, we will be in arnage on sunday evening, gotta get my line line lock fitted so we can smoke out all the bars, then normally take a trip down to the mulsan straight and have a play for a couple pf hours.

I've been through there a couple of times in my truck:

It's a nice drive and I'm keen to do the classic Le Mans which is on this year. I went year before last to 'modern' Le Mans as I was looking after a C type Jag in the support race.

I enjoyed our race but to be honest, didn't like the whole brits abroad feel to the main 24hr. Perhaps I'm a miserable kill joy.

I think the atmos at classic Le Mans would be better. I should be going this year to look after the C type and a Corvette 8)

Fec me, an ERIC :D:D:D , I thought you lot had died of old age, got any stickers left, BTW love the car I was with JH on saturday and had a good nose around it,

My mate has Part shares on a field that backs onto the Mulasanne Straight, rents it to a farmer all year and parks a party on the site on LeMans weekend, He keeps on inviting me as sounds like a good blast, but I allways seem to be working

Just as the ERICs seem to have survived has the EPF survived as well??

Samcos, put up a pic of your car, wont spot you otherwise.

We also hang around arnarge village on sunday and eating and drinking on the 'strip' usually dont leave till they shut.

We always did arnarge corner on friday afternoon till the old bill shut the road off this year.

V8ian, got any pics of your engine bay, cos my next project is a V8 in a 2 door tina. if you pm me your address i have a few stickers, i will send you one.

Rustypop, now i know the vehicle i will keep a look out

On the Friday till mid afternoon there is a large car show that includes all the drivers parade cars, at saint saturn, worth a visit if they keep arnarge corner shut.

Cheers for the sticker, PM sent  I would think you need to be at least 45 to understand ERIC, Just for the uninformed, ERIC stands for, ESSEX RACING IS COOL, and the other mentioned EPF is ESSEX POPULAR FRONT

What V8 do you intend fitting into the Mk2?, Mine is RV8,

its a bit grubby under there due to a Clutch fire, and, at the moment the engine is in bits after killing it at the Northweald Volksfest,

Hi ian

that looks sweet. love to see it in the flesh, the mechanics interest me more than shiny paint and chrome.

I hope to fit this lump,

3.5 litre Lotus Esprit, twin turbo

IMGP7756.jpg

i am researching a gearbox / bellhousing for it but i have to get the anglia box rebuilt first.

Which management are you using, and is it user friendly, cos i have to decide which one to go with?

DTA is favourite at the moment

PS ERIC came Monty Python. Eric the half a bee. Eric the Viking etc.

People kept asking what it stood for and someone somewhere made up 'essex racing is cool'....we woludnt have been that tacky!

EPF faded out, and Geoff Owen is the only one of them i know, still in the sport.

Now thats an intresting choice, 400hp thru cats off the shelf, no cats and aftermarket ECU 450+

As for ECU I use an Emerald M3Dk, real user friendly, and dave walker seems to know his trade when it comes to setting the thing up for a set basic price, have a look here for a few ecus http://www.jenvey.co.uk/ click management, as a point of intrest, when I had the car on dave walkers Rollers the person I was with sold his DTA ECU on the strength of what he saw and ordered a Emerald ECU.

I had a play with a Holley Commander ECU a little while ago, was not too impressed with it,

What are you doing gearbox wise, manual, auto, Porsche transaxle?? I would imagine a conversion bellhousing is not available

Ian

I am a convertee of auto boxes, range rover or jag are favourite as the engines have a similar torque curve and are 4 speed, and not too complicated electronically.

Would love a five or six speed auto, but they have too many electronic issues too sort out.

Unless i find one in the man time any ideas ?

Bellhousing will be fun, i can get a cast Lotus one but alli would be better, then do a cut and shut.

I will check out the emerald M3DK

Cheers

I do have an electronics whizz kid, he is the worst person in the world to capture as he works for a leading F1 team as a Electronics Engineer and as such can be anywhere in the world testing, what box are you thinking about, I can ask for ideas, Bounce a question off him and he will come back with an answer or six,

If you talk to Emerald, ask about the gearboxes, Dave & Karl are prety switched on

Many modern electrohydralic boxes have a stand alone ECU which I dont think take many inputs other than throttle position, engine and car speed, suppose the late model ford and chevy autos may be worth a look, Im sure there would be an electonic interface coming from the hot rod side of things, Mercedes may be an idea to look at especially as they may have a bit of tech from Chrysler that can be pirated, Chevy hav ecertainly been using a 6 speed auto for a while and I am sure the interface can be found with a bit of searching, GM6l45-50-80-90- all seem to be RWD versions and as such are available in the Vauxhall Holden, and I think the 50 is fitted to some BMWs as well
