Nissan turbo v cossie turbo

Which is the best 2 litre turbo engine on lowish boost , lets say 15-20 psi (so it don't blow up every 5 mins) . My mates tunes lots of turbo engines on his dyno and the Sunny GTIR /pulsar/200sx nissan SR20 turbo engine normally always hits around 330 bhp on sensible boost with no internal mods where as a cosworth engine needs expensive mods to do this (well not according to the RS lot down the pub who all have standardish 400+ bhp cossies each  more like 260 bhp if they're lucky  ) . Anyone had a Nissan SR20 turbo engine then ? Anyones mates got one ? Anyone raced against one ? (i beat a 350 bhp pulsar turbo with my old Harris pinto down the mad mile  ) . They would go well in an oldskoolford and should last a bit longer than most of the cossies etc so has anyone in the U.K. done it yet then ? I've seen a few 1.8 200sx turbo C18det engines (i think that's what they're called anyway :? ) in oldskoolfords but not an SR20 turbo motor . They're pretty cheap now as well as you can buy a tatty S14 model 200sx for less than £1500 and nick all the running gear from it , could be worth a shot i reckon

Dont know about the nissan engine but the missus has an mr2 turbo with the 3s-ge engine .It seems quick as standard with around 225 bhp but i,ve heard they,ll take 300 with no internal mods.I keep trying to persuade her to break the toyota for parts and fit the engine in a mk1 fiesta for amusment value but have been unsuccessful as yet

Well if you buy a £1500 (or less) S14 model 200SX nissan you'll have a rear wheel drive engine , box etc etc in the price that will hit a proper 300+ bhp without much messing , then just flog off the rest of the car  . It won't blow up often because the Jap engine is more efficent than a cossie as standard so it's not struggling to reach this power level so therefore should need less boost etc . I think they have smallish blowers on them as well so it won't be laggy and bog down etc so nice to drive instead of all that nothing , nothing , nothing , whooooooooosh , change up bollox

iv driven the1.8 turbo and it went like fook. cheap cheap performance

got be worth a try

it dont cost fook all to get a reliable 330 out of a cossie m8,and at lower boost, before you go on about mine i ranted the fook out of it for ages at 32/34 psi.on 2nd rebuild kept the boost at about 22 ish and was'nt a problem tbh m8  ,only my opinon tho

Thinking about buying a 200sx S14 model and using the running gear in a sleeper for a laugh  . Rusty steel wheels , roof rack , loads of dents , 1.1 badge etc etc  . It's too expensive to use a cossie turbo engine + box plus they don't make enough power on low boost in standard trim . Most of the other 2 litre turbo engines are transverse so no good for cheapo rear wheel drive action so the 200sx is ideal . I could build a 300 bhp 12 second car (with slicks) for £2000ish maybe using all the standard nissan running gear and injection bits . I'm thinking of using a battered rough looking 4 door mk2 escort or a Vauxhall viva

I used to have an S14a years ago, had loads of problems with flat spots in the power delivery, it was under warranty but Nissan could never sort it out. Had 2 new ECU's so I sold it before the warranty run out! But no-one else I ever spoke to had this problem. The aussies love this conversion.

Cheers for the link steve  . The old square brick 1970's Datsuns would be a cool sleeper but i like the on the limit sliding of an old Escort/cortina the best . There should be a few cheap ugly battered 4 doors for sale which i could hand paint black and fly a Jolly Roger from !!!!!!!

If you really want bargain bhp you can buy manual , 1.8 turbo 200sx's (still get 250bhp with a bleed valve  ) with rust for less than £200 !!!!!! The 2 litre SR20 turbo ones are more money compared to the older ones but there's a few on ebay for £1000- £1500 . Rough looking 4 door mk2 escorts are about £300 i think

Do it! Do it! Do it! I was seriously thinking of doing this to a MK1 before I found mine. When my 200sx was running right it was a stonking motor, and quite a bit of fun! Good for 140mph +, If only I had the time

take big rod mk1 van no and i mean no fancy bits in there. stock pistons on std size std cossy crank & rods. the head slightly tickled the cams are babys and i mean babys. the comp ratio is not low by any means and this made 385.4 bhp at engine advantages not to long ago. theres more in there i know. so you dont need all the fancy bits as far as im concerned[my opinion only]

Cool , the only problem with cossies is the price  , you can't buy a working S.ierra cosworth with a decent condition engine and gearbox etc for £1500 . Maybe you can but i've never seen one , they seem to start at £2500 for a smokey well foooooked saff with only 25 chav owners  . The 200sx's seemed to attract a more sensible (old git) kind of owner in their day :mrgreen:1837437.jpg

is that really you gaz? all this talk of jap motors with turbo's and nos is getting me worried.:lol:

the 1.8s are a steal for what they are mate, if its only for a sleeper/smoker to have a bit of fun in thats what id go for, and then when you kill it its no real biggie

it's gotta be done though Toby . Battered crap looking £300 mk2 escort 4 door , £200 1.8 nissan turbo engine + gearbox etc with 15psi of boost and 50-100bhp of gas = 300+ bhp probably . It should upset a few posh motors off the lights down the by-pass :lol::lol:

DO IT! You know it makes sense! Face it, the brits come up with the ideas, but the japs make it work. There's a few places online that import jap motors directly from japland as replacements etc. for the cars over here, so might be worth a look.

Was tempted to get a blower setup for the 4a-ge I'm gonna drop in my Cortina, but carbs sound better and are less hassle. Some bloke from Yankee-land was getting around 250 brake out of his home-brew turbo...
