i would say the dvla but the original plate may have been reallocated to another car now so you won't be able to get it back

or try asking previous owner , good luck

You can't just put the original plates back on. You need to notify DVLA and go through the transfer process.

yeah im jus tryin to find out how to find out first..lol

last owner got it the same too. how would i find out dvla or hpi, any links guys...

thanks for the input all..

An HPI check will tell you of any plate changes on the car, but it doesn't necessarily follow that DVLA will re-issue a previous registration mark if you remove the allocation of a "cherished" mark from the car. The previous mark may be non-transferable, or may itself have been transferred, or placed on retention.

i run a couple of car transporters and am contacted to british car auctions who do hpi checks for every car they auction so when your doing a couple of thousand a day 1 more wont even be noticed

thanks a lot mate, we'll at least i have some more details.

im still confused to how to find the original plate.

im pretty sure this cant be it, as some insurance companys don't reconise it (but still reconise a mk2 escort) and it has 6 letters/numbers..

ahh well the mystery is still unsolved...

iv double checked with the auction and they reckon the hpi would show a plate change if it had had 1. so i think that is its original reg
