shaun1.6ghia Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 how do i find the original plates? i bought my mk2 escort with private plates (only 6 numbers/letters) and dont kno how to get details of the originals an if the dvla have been notified any modifications. where would i find these details??? thanks for looking, shaun
marky4 Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 i would say the dvla but the original plate may have been reallocated to another car now so you won't be able to get it back or try asking previous owner , good luck
Smudger105e Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 You can ask the DVLA for the history of you car at a small cost, this should have the original reg number on...
Slik 50 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I think a basic HPI check would tell you.
philRS3100 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 You can't just put the original plates back on. You need to notify DVLA and go through the transfer process.

philRS3100 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 An HPI check will tell you of any plate changes on the car, but it doesn't necessarily follow that DVLA will re-issue a previous registration mark if you remove the allocation of a "cherished" mark from the car. The previous mark may be non-transferable, or may itself have been transferred, or placed on retention.

shaun1.6ghia Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 thanks a lot mate, we'll at least i have some more details. im still confused to how to find the original plate. im pretty sure this cant be it, as some insurance companys don't reconise it (but still reconise a mk2 escort) and it has 6 letters/numbers.. ahh well the mystery is still unsolved...
