Jelly Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Hey guys, what's the dealio with the old black and white plates? What year did they change over to white/yellow? Also, my 1971 escort is on yellow/white plates, but can I change them to black ones, as I think they look awesome!
samurai Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 I have a 72 and they are black and alu.yes you can 72 was the last of them to.
erick Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Up to 72 or 73 was the cut off for the old style plates, try this site http://www.pl8s.co.uk/page3.html
Jelly Posted November 3, 2006 Author Report Posted November 3, 2006 If that's so, then why does mine have yellow plates if it's from the same factory as Samurai's?
samurai Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 My uncel's 73 mex has yellow and black plates unlucky and he has to pay tax
tim Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 you can have black and white plates legally and get free tax on cars build pre 01/01/1973
Mr Sam Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 so why do so many cars have black plates and get away with it i wouldnt mind black pressed steel but im bound to get stopped
tim Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 not many pig know the law maybe or just dont care lol
morcheen Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 they look stupid on cars not supposed to have them like m2 escorts
samurai Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Thats ture, only for mk1's I see lots of newish cars with the black plates to and they look shit
Chris! Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 The reason your car has yellow and white is because it was an option, i have a mk1 cortina with them on. I have a 1976 mk3 cortina crayford, and thats currently running on yellow and white, but im oing to change them to black and silver as i doubt the old bill would know when the change over was
emu Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 they look stupid on cars not supposed to have them like m2 escorts Some people would argue with you there! I think a lot of it comes down to the color of the car. Orange paint didnt look right with yellow plates so they just had to go
Cookie Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Black and silver rules YFKT m8 I think all old skools should run on black and white, looks 1000 times better
Jelly Posted November 4, 2006 Author Report Posted November 4, 2006 So what's the law on the adhesive jobbies? You know the ones I mean.. You stick it on to your bonnet! Also, what's the law with regards to number plate lights? I don't think min e has any but it might do..
