Arched Escy Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Right lads need a few answers here. Found out problem with the bike carbs was that they were getting too much air So they either need rejetting(which I don't fancy paying for ATM) or an airbox. The standard gixxer box wont fit because the carbs are further apart than on the bike and the carbs have too much suction to use socks. Any idears or further opinions?
toad650 Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 You can get K&N cone filters to fit. All the bike accserory books will have them, demon tweaks etc, or measure up n get them straight from K&N as there have a list of all the sizes. They push on too each carb. Aren't you running a bit of a risk not running filters anyway?
mk1super Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 what are they mate mikunis? and what size?
Arched Escy Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 I genuinely dont know.I bought em secondhand and I emailed there to find out. They could be off a gixxer 750.Don't think ther mikunis anyway.
mk1super Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Should say on the side of em mate, if you can get the size and the make
Arched Escy Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 Ahh I'll check tomorrow.I think theres a guy on here with a white mk1 who has em aswell...
Nettles Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Try to find out some more info on the carbs if possible, like what model and year bike they were taken from. You can buy jet and filter kits quite cheaply from most bike dealers. If the carbs were taken from a Suzuki GSX750R, the early carbs up to 1997 had 39mm throttle bodies and the later models had the larger 46mm throttle bodies. K&N filers may help your problem but the GSXR carburettors are designed to run on a “ram air” system and they will need a direct channelled air flow to work correctly. Bike carbs have always been a pain to set up correctly but if done well can be a bloody good system.
Arched Escy Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Yep pretty sure theyre off a gixxer now. What do you mean by the ram air system? Had them with a mate and he said that the trumpets were "part" of the carb.Is this what you mean? You have to run the trumpets? Does anyone know if the filters would be the same for both of them?Trying won't hurt (hopefuly)
Arched Escy Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 and theyre not throttle bodies, just normal carbs. theyre '96 gsxr carbs.Must see about filters now I know for sure!
mk1super Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 I is no car expert but i do know that on those srad 750s the float bowls are pressurized with air the faster you go therefore drawing more fuel into the combustion chamber seeing as the car hasnt got the ram air ducts this may affect how they work on the car there for need tweeking to suit. I maybe talking out of my hoop so if iam wrong sorry in advance. Ps i is not a suzuki expert either

This is what I was trying to explain. You may need to direct the air flow into the carbs so that the set up will run correctly. When these carbs are fitted to the GSXR's they have two air ducts that run from the front of the bike and pass under the fuel tank and connect straight into the air box/filter thus forceing the air into the carbs. If your gonna rely on trumpets or K&N filters your probably have to retune the carbs to suit.
mk1super Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Nettles dont most use Kawasaki zxr 750 carbs? Thats if the ZZr boys havent used em all up
Arched Escy Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 i thought they were zxr carbs at first. Headin to a bike breakers in the morning to see if he has anything Thanks for the help guys, heres a vid of my dads thundercat as a reward http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o89/ ... deo000.flv
Nettles Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 If you could get away with it the carbs from your dad’s Thundercat might be ok for your escort. Your dad’s got good taste in bikes and he’s also managed to pick one in the right colour. Here are a couple of picks of me on my YZF1000R Thunderace and Brands Hatch.
mk1super Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 Fingers in ears blade blade blade nice Thunder Ace mate get that slider kissing the deck oh did i say blade!
Arched Escy Posted January 19, 2008 Author Report Posted January 19, 2008 It was only €400 but the tanks dented and rusty and it needs fairings and a screen.Runs fine.Just needs a bit of a tidy up elsewhere.
toad650 Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 Don't forget that the reason ram air is there is cos of the lack of space under the tank for an air box and the fact that gixxer engine's n most moden bike engine's are reving 15000rpm + so need that extra air intake. Also in the original post the prob was "too much air" so you need to slow the air down n make the induction harder to richen up the mixture or increase the jet sizes as there designed for only 750cc not the engine you've got which i guess is a bit bigger
Arched Escy Posted January 19, 2008 Author Report Posted January 19, 2008 Theyre the first SRAD carbs. Not the watercooled ones. The breakers had filters that wouldve done the job but were 56mm internal diameter and the carbs are 60mm external diameter. Anyone know where I'd get universal filters for that size?
toad650 Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 check online for bike accessory places like M&P, demon tweaks etc or try the K&N web site or other filter makers sights. Google bike filters i'd guess. Lots of bike shops will beable to get them in for you. Did you try fitting the filters from the breakers? There connectors are usually rubber so might stretch the 4mm after warming them for 10mins or so in hot water.
