lee_capri Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 right going to fit a body kit on the cappa, but this will happer me for getting it on and off trailer or a truck, came up with a idea to put a towing eye in that is removeable in the front bummper, but would it take the strain of winching ect,has the place im looking to fit will be corved bu the number plate, what do you think
Pipster007 Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I'd say by fitting it to the bumper it will either rip the bumper off at worse or twist and warp the bumper at best. You should have a towing eye on the cross member. It's a triangular shaped item
lee_capri Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 I'd say by fitting it to the bumper it will either rip the bumper off at worse or twist and warp the bumper at best i was going to strenthen the back of the bumper with angle-iron has it wouldnt be seen, but dont no if it would work pip
lee_capri Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 You should have a towing eye on the cross member. It's a triangular shaped item in have but it's about 2 foot under the car and with putting it on a truck it alway's beand's the valance up pip
Chris! Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 weld it to the chassis not the bumper it doesnt have to be central
bortaf Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 If you wled it to the bumpwer as the car comes up the ramp the whinch will be pulling the front of the car down loosing ground clearance, it's allways best from a recovery/whinching point of veiw to have the eye on the lowest point possable. New cars with the tow eye in the bumper are a fricken pain to get on me recovery truck especialy when they have no X member to hook to how about a removable pannel to give the cable clearance or if you really need to put the eye on the bumper mount the winch higher that pull it on mines set low in the bed but thats os it was made before tow eye in bumper cars came out, newer recovery have the winch set high up on a plinth
Pipster007 Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Just had a thought..................Why not fit a strut brace, then use that to pull the car up with the winch
Chris! Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Just had a thought..................Why not fit a strut brace, then use that to pull the car up with the winch er the winch would damage the slam panel
Rick Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 dont really matter where you stick it as long as its backed up witha good strengthening plate, as long as the tow rope dont foul any panels when pulled taught
over_head_cam Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I'd cut a hole in the bumper and put a tube through it and bolt to to the chassis rail, the tube would have a nut welded in the end that was the same thread as a later ford screw-in eye
orionmojo Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 put it on backwards? can you do that?
deltamal Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Iv'e made a frame that bolts on to the corty's sub frame permanently, with 2 m12 threaded holes in it, made a long flat towing eye that I can bolt on when needed, as the car is lowered and a tow rope on the suspension bu##er's the front valance!
