FredTransit Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Just won this off ebay, not seen it yet, but looking forward to it! Obviously it's only good for cars, but TBH that's what we want it for, and it's another tax exempt Mk1 transit! Seriously, we will be available for car collection and delivery, when we have sorted it out (job no 1 is to get the winch fixed or replaced!) It's tax exempt, so a diesel will be going in to replace the V6 essex and a big sign or sun visir will be fitted (DIESEL) so we can keep Ken informed when we pass the LEZ cameras
FredTransit Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 Cheers mate! Thats pretty much what l thought!
escortmad79 Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Another crewcab appears out of the dust
FredTransit Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 There can't be many of em left.
capriaddict Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Oooh! thats just what i wanted, i'll have to keep looking for another one
FredTransit Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 Oooh! thats just what i wanted, i'll have to keep looking for another one Got a Mk2 chassis cab that I was going to get a recovery body for, but this one's road ready!
tikimunki Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 that is one cool looking truck , suit our pinto powered altered .,.....
FredTransit Posted February 19, 2008 Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 Been to see her, I now have the V5 and will get her when I have the 'stabling' out next week. Pulls like a train (V6) and stops well, already has halogens and is pretty sound. the chassis is better than some of our Mk2s, but there is some serious parts swapping going on over her life. The steering box/shaft, steering cowling, ignition lock, steering wheel and column switches are all transit Mk2. The steering wheel is a bit near for that, but you get used to it. I need to get some big springs for the back...... the paint is seriously bad! The seller admitted he had hand painted it with household silk paint, don't even know if it's exterior quality! The good news is it's not hiding lots of rust, the wings are all steel (not filler!).
FredTransit Posted April 1, 2008 Author Report Posted April 1, 2008 OMG the paint is BAD! Only cosmetic though. Here's the best bit, we had no idea how huge it was! We measured her, and the wheelbase is 13ft, the total length is 23ft, so she's bigger than the biggest Mk2 luton. As a Petrol I doubt we will be able to afford to fill both tanks, I stopped at £60! She already has Mk2 steering and brakes, and a D series bumper! I think the tanks are D series too, that £60 only made half of the gauge. We are planning a DI for her, and an amber beacon, and defo improve that paint!! Also the wings have been bodged in a big way. Where the headlights and indicators go have been flushed off with flat steel plate, and the lights have been fixed directly to the plates. The indicators are not originals, and the headlights are halogen replacements, so they can be re used, I have some NOS indicators so I was thinking to put them on the camper reversion and the reversion's ones on the truck. We replaced the bezels and ally dishes on the amby with NOS so the ones off the amby can go on the truck too. More pics to follow!
capriaddict Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 That is so would love one myself if you come across any others especially with a V6 allready fitted
FredTransit Posted April 1, 2008 Author Report Posted April 1, 2008 Well sadly the V6 won't be staying! As she's tax exempt she's also LEZ exempt, so it would be almost rude not to fit a diesel. Anyway the V5 still says heavy oil. Fitted some black and silver plates, removed some of the none original stickers, replaced the steering wheel with an original Mk1 transit and re fitted a tow hook/ball as it was missing when we bought her. Somebody at some stage has done a complete re wire, with not one but 3 fuse boards, all top stuff with nice cable finishing and blade fuses, so no worries about a wiring fire! Shame the outside is so shit, but at least that can be fixed.
FredTransit Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 Thanks for the nice comments people. Next thing is taking the Mk2 door mirrors off (they can be used elsewhere) and fitting door mirrors, and an amber beacon (that's why I was inspecting the wiring!)
DoireMan Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 What's a petrol van/truck like that like on the juice when it's carrying something? Sorry for the stupid question, just curious.
FredTransit Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 NO idea! Only driven her a short distance as yet, I will let you know next week!
FredTransit Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 Here she is in the snow - Had a good look round her over the week end, and the more I look the more I realise she was a good buy. Somebody has spent a lot of time and or money on a re wire. She has not one but 3 fuse boards, Durite ones. A stainless exhaust, a 3 piece prop and coil helpers for the front springs! I think they are helpers, cos she's still got the leaf springs, I will get some pics tomorrow. There are extra bits of strengthening all over the truck, like on the cab floor, and a tube strut like an underbonnet stiffening bar instead of the front crossmember. It's a shame they did so little with the outside. I had an amber beacon fitted and sprayed the wheels silver. Oh and it turns out it's a cologne, complete with leccy ignition which is just as well cos the dizzy is stuffed right under the fierwall and checking points would be impossible!
