what battery are you using and whats the amp it produces....also is it in the boot or engine bay.......

 

im trying to locate a batt to go in the engine bay but everyone ive seen is too big for the tray or the wrong type so it wont clamp down by using the original mounts or the terminals are the wrong way around

 

the best one ive found so far is a mini batt but its only 45 amps and the terminals are the other way around ....i believe i need a 75amp to be capable to do the job

 

so what you using?

i was using a standard battery and alternator on mine but the chargeing light came on after 5-10mins of all 4lights being on. this time round im fitting a big battery off a late sierra in the boot off the mk1 with an 80amp alternator

you want an 037 battery but heavy duty they are about 60ah. my battery is in the boot in my escort & is a standard escort battery,as long as you use a relay & fuse you should be ok i only run a 55amp alternator & never had any probs when the cibies where on.

Got my battery in the boot. I dont know what number it is but it for a diesel mondeo. Seems fine but will crank slow at times !!

i even went to a place that does lorry batts... all were a bit to large, i really want to keep the batt in the engine bay

They do the period rubber moulded type but they are the correct size but aren't cheap about £80

It's not the battery size that's important when running extra electrical loads, it's the alternator. The battery's main job is to start the engine and providing you don't expect it to do that after sitting with lights and spots on for a while you'll be fine.

 

I run a standard size battery on my tray (I think it's a 5" wide battery) but have upgraded my alternator to 55Amp and have had no trouble with electrical running load. Occasionally it struggles to start my high compression engine, but that doesn't affect it once running.

If i remember correctly i fitted a mk3 escort X.R.3.i altanator to my x flow, it bolts stright on and has a output of 80 amps. Copes with 4 100w cibies and 80w/100w headlights !!!!!!!
