I have a set of Porsche 993 carerra calipers, front and rear with AP racing 315mm front disc and sierra cossie front discs on the back. The whole set-up. Includes : Calipers, discs, bells, mounting brackets, Group 4 alloy hubs and studs etc. Perfect for a tarmac race car etc. Whats it all worth?? And what do you guys reccommend to replace it? This is to get some smaller brakes to enable me to fit some wheels more in keeping with the Alan Mann theme i want to do one day, since i wont be using the car for competition, it seems a little bit over kill for a Sunday driver with the occasional track day! Basically, i cant get my Revolutions on with these either!! Cheers all.

Admin Vista Posted March 14, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 14, 2008 Keep the brakes and stuff the opinions on big wheels. A car with huge engine performance can easily be out done by one with much less power but better brakes and suspension. edit: ESPECIALLY if you're considering trackday use.

Course he wouldn't he was a builder of race cars and race cars are meant to beat the opposition by being fast.

Guest MK1gaz Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Just for vista . Here's a 1500bhp turbo F1 car my mates tinkering with , note the little brakes that fit inside the 13 inch rims . The owner has decided not to fit any 17inch "puff daddy" chrome spinners to this machine !!!!!!!!

Huge wheels and tyres increase a cars unsprung weight and this is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad . Then fitting maoooosive big brakes makes it even worse . Especially when you don't need them 9 times out of 10 anyway

Especially when you don't need them 9 times out of 10 anyway cobblers, what you've shown me is a tiny car that weighs the square root of fook all and therefore doesn't need big brakes. Sambo however has a car with a good weight in it and WILL benefit from the brakes he has fitted.

Don't forget the bigger (and heavier) the wheels , tyres and brakes plus the friction/drag they cause will usually cancel out their so-called advantages . Sambo weigh one of your wheels and tyres when you get 5 mins please
PIG Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 smaller brakes are better dependant on tha use of the car surely,im all for the puff daddy trip,but you wont get big fat brakes on a loose surface car etc.... but on this occasion i do have to agree with gaz that big brakes dont always mean better braing in a small light car

Not only would they look better but they would work better which is a win win situation

Admin Vista Posted March 15, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 15, 2008 What ever you say Gaz Sambo, Gaz is right, fit 13" rims & skinny narrow tyres (hell they'll look great on your arched car won't they?) plus they'll give you all the grip you need for your trackdays after all. Oh and while you're at it have you heard that drums all round is all the brakes you need ? Go with what you want mate (rather than what the fashion police think looks best).
