mossy Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 nice power curve, should be a great engine to play with!
kev16v Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 i thought ur manifold is the same as mad micks? tony law?? he dont have any problems with making the power at high revs
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 i thought ur manifold is the same as mad micks? tony law?? he dont have any problems with making the power at high revs Yes it's the same mate , Tony Law told me it will restrict power after 7200revs compared to a 4 into 1 jobbie , it still works though but i'm just nosey
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Take a look at this . This is the plot for my engine (purple) and a Vauxhall hot rod engine (red) on the same dyno . The hot rod had a 4 into 1 and 1 exhaust box and it still has a pretty identical power curve to mine but makes much more power after 7000 revs . The owner of the hot rod tried about 5 different exhausts before getting it like that . Food for thought i reckon
4parajon Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Gaz if you know what cams are in there and a few other bits and pieces I should be able to work out how long your primaries need to be for you. Ive got the info at work so will PM you what info I need if your interested.
escortmad79 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 215bhp? Would've got more with a turbo!!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Cheers Jon , i'm interested alright so get your tools out !!!!!!!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 215bhp?Would've got more with a turbo!!! Yes but it would sound shite and need 400bhp too keep up !!!!!
w p e Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Take a look at this . This is the plot for my engine (purple) and a Vauxhall hot rod engine (red) on the same dyno . The owner of the hot rod tried about 5 different exhausts before getting it like that . Food for thought i reckon the main difference in these two graphs is engine stroke. square XE. versus short stroke so the graph will read different. as for 4into one manifold on atmo been there not any more
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Wayne did you ever try a 4 into 1 on Micks then ?
w p e Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 no on mine. and when darryle sold the orange one someone put a up and over tony law on it and it lost 18hp so now back on 4-2-1
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 sounds like the up + over 4 into 1 manifold was as good as my high performance air filter then
Toby Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 What is the capacity of the hot Rod engine, yours is 2.1 isn't it?
w p e Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 What is the capacity of the hot Rod engine, yours is 2.1 isn't it? as the hotrods a nhrpa spec car the max bore size is 87.5 mm std 86mm bearing in mind no head work allowed only 1mm behind the valve seat can be fettled and blended in the throat. standard stroke of 86mm.
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 What is the capacity of the hot Rod engine, yours is 2.1 isn't it? mines 2.04 litres but the hot rod lot all cheat anyway so that could be a 2.3 !!!!!!!!! It was a space framed pick up truck hot rod type beast and may be on exotic fuel
Toby Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Assuming the Hot Rod engine is legal then it's pretty impresive with no head work then!! Are you allowed cams? They're usually on 45's too arent they? Better than your throttle boddies everywhere!!
RETRO_AL Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 215bhp?Would've got more with a turbo!!! Yes but it would sound shite and need 400bhp too keep up !!!!! You still in dream world then
4parajon Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Gaz, I need to know: Exhaust Open BBDC Exhaust Closed ATDC Engine RPM CC of one cylinder If you can get me that info I should be able to calculate how long your primaries need to be and what size .
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Gaz, I need to know: Exhaust Open BBDC Exhaust Closed ATDC Engine RPM CC of one cylinder If you can get me that info I should be able to calculate how long your primaries need to be and what size . Ok mate , will do
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Assuming the Hot Rod engine is legal then it's pretty impresive with no head work then!! Are you allowed cams? They're usually on 45's too arent they? Better than your throttle boddies everywhere!! Yes carbs are as good as bodies on full throttle and make the same power . The hot rod had 48's , cams and high comp pistons etc , spiked pump fuel and i don't know about the head or the cc's i'm affraid . Very tasty engine but i have another graph of a REALLY amazing 4 pot M3
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 215bhp?Would've got more with a turbo!!! Yes but it would sound shite and need 400bhp too keep up !!!!! You still in dream world then No , just looking at all their 14 sec runs at Brunters the other month !!!!!!!!
Supercharged Nat Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Interesting reading! out of curiosity, what was your high performance filter?
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Interesting reading! out of curiosity, what was your high performance filter? One of those expensive foam things . They sent me a great big foam box but this wouldn't fit , then they sent me a plastic box with a foam lid and that wouldn't fit so ended up with a smaller full length foam filter that clips onto an alloy back plate . It's useless though and nicks 15 bhp , it must be too small and too close to the trumpets or it doesn't let air pass through it !!!!!!!!! You can see it in the pic
Toby Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Yes carbs are as good as bodies on full throttle and make the same power I know you wont be offended cos I'm not critisising your car - even though you should put a turbo on it but surely the map should make the power better somewhere in the rev range where the carbs just cant meter the fuel correctly?? I guess butterflyless TB's should flow air better than Webbers too so you would expect a little more maybe at the very top end....
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 No difference in full throttle power mate between them really . The engine only sees air + fuel so it don't care how it gets it as long as it's mixed correctly . Throttle bodies and full engine management will give better engine pick up and driveabilty as it can be finely adjusted to give the engine exactly what it wants . It costs much more though
