is my ratio wrong?

just want peoples opinions please, iv noticed my unfitted lsd has a 3.54 diff. its going in an escy running a fast road x/flow with a 1600 sport box with probably 195/50 15s on it. i want to be able to drive a 70 on the motorway without it screeming its arse off, but more importantly i still wanna be able to light the tyres up from the odd junction.

is this diff as i suspect not going to do this and what would i be better with?

If you're going to be running at the pod regularly then a 3.54 is probably too tall.

 

However if your car is for daily use and you want to use it seriously then a 3.54 will be fine and will cruise very comfortably at 70. It'll also keep your mpg up a little and will still be able to light up the rear wheels with a bit of right foot. However whether you can compete with other cars in the traffic light derby depends on your engine spec. I run one on mine and with my engine it's the perfect choice and I'm perfectly happy with it.

My car runs the std 3.54 and lights up one tyre (no slipper ) but jogs along lovely on the motorways at more than 70

 

People have said that if I went 3.9 it would obviously be quicker down the strip but still very sensible on the motorways

 

Although I am going (eventually ) for a slipper with a 4.1

I would of said a 3.9 diff would cruise at 70 mph comfortable and give you some lively off the light's and especially if you run 15 inch rims a 3.5 diff on 15s you could cruise at 100 mph comfy

Hot 2.2 pinto and a type 9 5 speed.

 

edit oh and PS your 195/50/15 tyres will give your near as dammit no difference in gearing to the standard 175/70/13 tyres that Ford sold the 4 spoke equipped cars with. The rolling radius with your 15" tyre is only 0.4mm larger.

I had a 3.54 LSD in my old Anglia van with a 136bhp crossflow and it used to cruise at 70 no problem....... but preferred 80.

Down the strip it used to run consistant 15.4 quarter miles at 90 so not too shabby either.HTH.
