stevepeanut Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I'm thinking of doing the capri matt black over the next month or so. I just bought a compresor and gun from machine mart. I really need someone to point me in the right direction. I dont want to go near 2 pack paint, so I'm guessing I need celulose. Or would it be easier just to do it with rattle cans? I've read the article on the how to pages, but would prefer if someone whos gone the matt black route could point me in the right direction.
hotrodholty Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 i matt/satin blacked my old pop, rub the whole car down with scotch pads and hot soapy water, the rub down any niggly bits with wet and dry 600 i used just to key the bodywork then a dozen rattle cans from halfords, just lay a shit load of paint on and it'll look bang-on mate
johnny_h Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Rattle cans mate, my spray job cost £60 (10 cans from halfrauds) Prep yourself woith scotchbrite... Find a disused underground car park.... Bash out the rattle cans.... Job's a goodun.... Twinkle did his capri too...
stevepeanut Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 love the use of the old carpark
Rick Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 you cant really go wrong with matt/satin black rattle cans/ you cant get 2-pac nomore so it will be celly paint.
stevepeanut Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 you cant really go wrong with matt/satin black rattle cans/ you cant get 2-pac nomore so it will be celly paint. rick, would you recommend I go for cans? rather than using the compressor and gun? I didnt buy the compressor for this paint job, just bought it for a bit of everything, but figured it would come in usefull for this. But also I have seen some ace results with just cans.
Rick Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 iv never put matt black through a compressor to be honest always just used cans. its prob cheaper to buy a few litres rather than a pack of cans though
dyt397c Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I painted my Anglia with cans, industrial satin black. £4 a can and only used 5!! got them from a motor factors(cheaper than Halfrauds)
stevepeanut Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 I'm gonna give it a go. Off to scotch corner tomorrow. Then I am gonna take the car off the road for a month and do all the jobs that need doing and get the paint done.
Burns Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Mr Sam did his (old?) fiesta matt black with a compressor, might be an idea to pm him and see how he found it
FredTransit Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 You can't get celly over the counter any more, unless you are a registered restorer and you have to give a classic car number plate.
Airbag Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I sprayed my Capri Satin Black last winter just befor xmas I used cellulose and a small compresor
dannyboy Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Have any of you guys used clear lacquer over the satin? Is it needed? I guess not but thought I'd ask. Would it give a better finish? I have a white car would it be more work? I fancy camo green or satin black! Christ I'm having a nervous breakdown tonight...
Messenjah Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 DONT GO TO HALFRAUDS !!!!!!!!!!! the paint doesnt come out of the cans smoothly and they are a rip off price !!! £5.99 for 500ml .... i got cans from my local bodyshop place they were £2 q can and had a much nicer spray pattern !

I would have thought puting clear lacquer over satin black would make it to shiney! whole point of satin black is it's not quite shiney and you don't have to polish it

Rick Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 ..... you can buy matt and satin laquer you know guys
stevepeanut Posted March 30, 2008 Author Report Posted March 30, 2008 if celly isnt available of the counter, and I dont wanna go near 2 pack. What kind should I buy?
