MexDan Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Just opened up my thermostat housing to find there is no thermostat in there!! I have ordered a new one but am wondering now is it is worth putting it in?? The fan does not run auto off of the thermostat... So is there any point in putting one back in there??? Cheers
flyingbanana Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 its main purpose is for winter so the engine has more time to warm up before opening up and letting the water get around the system
4parajon Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I ran my capri for 3 years without one. I never noticed any difference.
Dalek Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 It also makes the water flow round the entire engine by restricting the flow. It's meant to be int there, fit one !
lee_capri Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 most people take them out when they start over heating but they are a good idea if you want some heat in the car and not frezze your ba**'s off when you go out this time of year
stevepeanut Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 was in backwards, the guy in the garage said. Swapped it round but nothing happened.
Admin Vista Posted March 29, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 29, 2008 It's meant to be there, fit one.
antz Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 It's meant to be there, fit one. cant agree more!!! its only a couple of quid. when you get out there and it boils over in traffic youll be sat there in a cloud of smoke and melted engine thinking 'f**k why didnt i just buy a thermostat!'

Acme engines by Wiley Coyote? I'd have a thermostat even if I didn't have a heater. Engines are designed to run efficiently at their design temperature and over cooling whilst not as dangerous as overheating is still not good for the engine. So as I said earlier, it's meant to have one so fit one.
Tom Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 as vista says, a thermostat is there mainly to get and keep your engine at peak operating temperature - fit one.
MexDan Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 Cheers For the feedback lads!! Was a bit puzzled to be honest when i opened it up and it was missing... and as you said for a couple of quid i'll drop one in!! Cheers
