well, i was wandering through wilkinsons (cheap home shop if the name doesnt jog your memory) and found 20/50 oil for under a fiver, now i didnt buy it but i was wondering if theres much difference between the cheap stuff, and the more expensive oils, as surely there are regulations as to how good the oil has to be etc etc etc

wilkinsons and asda do not own oil refinaries, they just buy it in! it has less detergents and additives in as thats something that other oil companies add to thier own specification bumping up the price. i remember this being discussed in depth on here by someone in the trade.

oh yeah i know wilkinsons and asda dont make the oils, but to buy it in and sell it for around a fiver for a gallon of the stuff. i guess it would be just as good if not better than the half decent oil that these cars have had for decades back when they were not so old skool?

As I understand it ... it's not what they put in ... it's what they don't put in that makes it not like the "proper" stuff

Personally, for me, I would not use it
