antz Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 my dad is adomant that my LSD shouldnt click when i am moving slowly round corners (parking, manovering round tight bends slowly etc) its a plate type lsd and im positive that the click is just the plates inside and it does that because of what it is. who is right?
PaulAshman Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Not sure to be honest Antz but I am sure my mate had a lsd in his cortina before he sold it and I don't remembet that clicking! I am sure someone will know a definate answer.
Mr Sam Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 as in the wheels scrub because they both turn at the same speed where as on LSD the wheels move free from each other to turn easier LSD stood dor limited slip diff did it not i thought it was meant to transmit the power evenly in a straight launch but still be able to manouver easily a welded diff would scrub the wheels
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 My old LSD did just that. But mine was an ATB.
Mr Sam Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 mate just get them rears smokeing then check for the number 11
oliwally Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 How loud a ticking is it,if its quiet then you're right. If,on the other hand it sounds like your wheels are falling off then no it shouldnt
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 mate just get them rears smokeing then check for the number 11 His engine isn't powerful enough

Baz. Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Mate its fine, mine sounds like it grinding really bad, i only have to just turn the wheels slightly off the straight and it starts, alot depends on how its been set up and being used for wot its even noisier when the oil is hot is your a tran x? where did you get it from?
antz Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 I got it from g.s.escorts. Graeme told me that its a freshly built unit done by R.A.C.E or something. i thought it was alright cos its not a nasty noise. it just sounds like its working how tis supposed to but my dad likes to know these things
antz Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 he's just jelous because his doesnt do it ha ha thats true
Ratters Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 mine clicks once it warms up a bit i asked a few people when it first happened & they assured me it was normal so it hasn't bothered me since
antz Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 cheers ratters! seems like i am right for once
MK2Ed Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Plate type LSD's are meant to click and inside wheel will skip at low speed when cornering. i can't remember the mechanics behind it offhand but will try and look up... Once you get a bit more energy in the diff it soon disappears...
druim Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 i have a plate type lsd and it clunks+bangs really bad when turning etc,has done for ages+its ok when in "use" worse when oil heats up its normal for them so i wouldnt worry about it at all
surfingturnip Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 if you dont want it anymore I'll have it off you for a tenner
pbutilities Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 mate i have a tranx lsd was clicking the same as you describe , i thought it was fine turned out the diff was set up for race and i screwed it up using it for road use needed new plates £90 ok now
antz Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 as far as i know im using the right diff oil. a proper garage did it for me who does classic cars and he never got it wrong yet (other than differing opinions on thigns) i hope it doesnt go wrong on me
