Last 10 miles or so, car started missing and juddering. Then stalled on missus on way home. Managed to limp home.

Had a look. Points look like they've almost welded at one point, like they're too hot.

Car is running quite rich at moment. Recently changed condenser. Everything else is unchanged.

Any ideas what might be caused what might have caused it?

Cheers,

Jim

Jim, similair thing happened to me some years back. The new condenser I fitted went duff in about 48hrs of fitting, try new points and new condenser. I think there was some duff Lucas? condensers floating about abit back. Shakey

Wish I hadn't binned the old one. Only changed it cos it had done 26000 miles and thought it deserved a new one, but that hadn't given me any probs

Well I rubbed down the points, so they were reasonably smooth again and put it back together and it seems happy enough. Hopefully get the missus to school and back.

Most condensors you buy at the mo are sh*t and go down faster than a hundred-dollar hooker!

A little trick I discovered whilst working on classic race cars is to run two condensors in parallel. Has no detrement to the ignition system, and makes them last 100 times longer.

Good luck!

 won't fit inside the cap though surely will they?

I thought that. Guess you might have to do a bit of modding......

Anyhow. All sorted now. New condenser and points. Tapping away merrily like all crossflows should.

As a note, Intermotor condenser I got has got smaller and with green wire. Resembles the one I had before that gave me 25k of happy motoring. Hopefully, they've gone back to a better manufacturer?

Using a 12V coil on a system with a ballast resistor?

Nah! Haven't done any of that yet. Still running original setup. Just a dodgy condenser I reckon.
