fatbloke racing Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 well to cut a long story short.....my type 9 is totally shot and Ive seen a mt75 from what looks to be from a four pot Granny. Now I know the input shaft is not long enough but, how much grief would it be changing the internals over and getting a longer input shaft? What casing should I use? I know the prop will need a slight modification but does the work involved outweigh the good points? got just over an hour before it runs out on ebay - prob shouldnt of said that!!!!! Your thoughts please......
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Just fit the whole mt75 gearbox instead . These are bigger than a type 9 and if you have an escort with a standard tunnel then you'll need to get the angle grinder out and chop the car in half , not sure about a capri though
fatbloke racing Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 Sounds easier than it is, the bellhousing on this particular box is fixed unlike the v6 versions (which I can find none of!) and even the the bolt patterns look completely different. Does anyone know if there is a how too guide that someone may have done??????
fezza Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Hmmmm,im sure the stud pattern is the same,im using an MT75 box in my escort and ive had that bolted to the engine,im no V6 expert but surley it will fit if the type 9 does
bortaf Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 You'll need a hybrid box making up from the front half of a 4X4 V6 box and the rear end of the 4pot box 4 pot and V6 sellhousing bolt patterns are different
jamesg Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Capri Sport do a ready to fit MT75 but they want a massive £400, ive bought an MT75 second hand but it does need modding. However, my Type9 is holding up.
Dom Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Or you could search under every stone in the land for a genuine V6 one
fatbloke racing Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 Cheers gentlemen, the plan is starting to formulate..... I'll get in touch with them to see how forth coming they are with information! £400 and you still have to modify the prop....very steep me thinks
rich_mkii_rs2000 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 xr4i spares sell them for about £350. You need to combine your capri prop with a sierra 2litre dohc prop. I have started to get the bits ready for the conversion but other things have come up at the moment. See my guide, it is on a few forums, but you can see it without having to register on here http://buryretroford.19.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=984

fatbloke racing Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 That bad you had to say it twice eh! Sorting the prop is no problem, as If I dont fancy it we have a workshop full of coded welders. I'm assuming that it's not going to be as simple as changing the rear casing over and the out put shaft fromthe 2wd box will have to used - not having had a 4x4 box apart yet I dont know how the transfer box takes its drive so that will have to be removed as well. Made a decision tonight to get a type 9 and build up a mt75 just so that I can use the damn thing in the meantime!
