CWP Gearing …

OK, I’ve been talking to Toby a little bit on this one but want to throw it open to the collective for their experience …

 

I’ve got a five speed box - with a non-standard gearset – fifth gear is still 0.82. First gear is 2.75 …

 

My current CWP is geared at 3.89, I have LSD and my slicks are 180-53-13’s …

 

I still want to drive to events (motorway, etc) and still want to be quick as poss in the OSFDC …

 

What geared CWP would you recommend? Is a 4.4 gonna be too much of a screamer on the motorway - negate 5th - and drive me insane or is a 4.1 gonna be too much of a compromise and slow me down in the OSFDC …? Or am I OK with the 3.89 …??

At how many revs is 70 mph in top ?

 

And would you be prepared to be revving it more for the same amount of mph ?

Most (99%) of all atmo 4 cylinder engines (without gas) will be struggling to hit 100+mph in a standing start 1/4 mile sprint . Gear the car to do 100mph at 6500-7000 revs in 4th gear with the slicks on it and you will be spot on . A 4:1 diff should be a good all rounder really but your engine may need a 4:4 with the slicks as the grip may overcome the power on the startline and bog the engine down

I suggest a 9:1 diff and an 8 speed gearbox.

Would you be happy doing 70 mph @ 4k, if so, go for 4.4, if not try the 4.1
