MexDan Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 With the price of petrol at an all time high... and the probability its only going to get more expensive with oil prices predicted to reach $200/ barrel... (current price is about $120/barrel) is it going to make owning classics unaffordable??? There are a number of people already struggling to run one daily car so surely if petrol becomes more expensive owning a second is even less viable??? Will this lead to a crash in prices on the classic car market?? Is it the logical choice to sell up now and get out whilst car prices are high??? Discuss
Trevmk3 Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 i dont think the prices of classics will be affected much mate, the price of big engined newer cars will drop a bit i think, i will only use however much i can afford in the cortina and run the daily driver for work only
Stu_B Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I've already decided to sell my daily & struggle with public transport when it hits £1.50 a litre.... ... keeping my Anglia & Cortina though for fun as I can justify the cost of a weekend blast as a hobby but not as daily transport!!
Trevmk3 Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 yeah if petrol gets to ridiculus then i will have to find a job thats nearer so i can walk or ride a bike to it, dont fancy riding 23miles in the winter at each end of a days work
Admin Mk2Jo Posted May 9, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 9, 2008 I will sacrifice a new carpet, kitchen or bathroom to keep my cars going
mk2_escort_chick Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 Nice one Jo! I'm greedy and have 3 cars, but only 1 is on the road atm... gonna get another osf as a daily driver and sell the renault The money I've saved by giving up smoking can go towards running my car fund How much is petrol where everyone is? Cheapest is aprox 107.9 and diesel is 117.9
Trevmk3 Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 about the same here for petrol and 120 for diesel although some places its near 110 for petrol
mk2_escort_chick Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 As far as i know theres a 10p difference between petrol and diesel round this neck of the woods. I believe the bp garage is the most expensive at 112.9 (petrol) and 122.9 (diesel)
sab6024 Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I need my car for work, and use my Capper as a spare in case the tupperware chariot breaks down If the classic car prices do come down I might invest in a MK1 Escy
Copey Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 my plan is to get a motorbike at some point to use when its dry at least
Mrs O/H/C Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 WE ARE RUNNING 5 CARS AND ITS A BL**DY JOKE ATM ...
oddball Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I will sacrifice a new carpet, kitchen or bathroom to keep my cars going I already have and who's ever heard of carpet, kitchen & bathroom meets / racing,Cars are so much more fun
tazrocks88 Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 my osf will be my dayly drive so it wont matter
FredTransit Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 You only drive one at once, so put petrol in the one you are driving , right now we have at least 8 vans on the road, all with some petrol or diesel in it. Even the bleedin veg oil has gone up to 95p a L so that's hardly an option now. At the end of the day it's cheaper to have a classic as a 2nd car, if it's free tax.
bortaf Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 Just put a diesel in a classic Macro do oil at 84p per litre
