UPDATE TIME!

Ran the old girl up the strip @ CF show and was very dissapointed with the times

So had the head off the following week in order to perform some further fettling. Turns out the head was fairly standard apart from some mild porting and a set of standard size rimflow valves and had never been skimmed. It's amazing what people tell you about the spec when you buy something. They're always 2.1 (or 1700 in the case of crossflows) with big valves etc etc aren't they

"Off with her head!!"

Bores all good and un worn with no undue lateral piston movement. All nice and snug in there

Bores are 93mm so she is indeed just under 2.1 & 2090cc's Had the sump of before engine went in. There is evedence of the crank being balanced etc so I'm happy with all that.

Had another head sitting on the shelf so I pulled it apart for a freshen up.

It's had some nice porting work on both inlet & exhaust sides and has 44mm inlets & 38mm exhaust valves. Has had approx 40thou taken off.

Cleaned and decoked everything, re lapped the valves in and re assembled with new stem seals and the 285 cam & vernier which I had been running previously. I'm a bit hacked off now though as this replacement head had been fitted with a BLF63 cam. I stupidly removed this before researching what exactly it was. Turns out it's a fairly wild Burton cam and much much better than the 285 :evil::evil:

Changed the 45's for something different too.

R1 bike carbs and a nice Pipercross filter

Not too sure about these though.. Although they drive very well and return exellent MPG and attract a lot of interest, I'm really missing the angry bark of the 45's :twisted: The webers were the cars main soundtrack. The bike carbs are comparitavely fairly quiet with the exhaust taking centre stage now. No so good...:sad:

Also swapped the long legged 3.54 diff for a 3.89 to give her a bit more 'get up and go' through the gears. Still cruises ok though.

A couple more piccies to end with

Looks really good Mick,

i had a bit of a nose around this at CF and at the avo show a few weeks ago,

good idea about the diff, i think mine has a 4:1 in it and its terrible on the motorway, but really quite quick.

What !!!!!!! Why are you selling :sad::sad::sad:

Too many cars I guess. Can't drive em all either..

I really do like this one, and I'm always pleasantly suprised with the reactions/comments on here & elsewhere. However, she's been distracting me from doing the van. Not to mention the Mk1's.

For a while, I've been thinking of bunging a 4.1 LSD & a proper lairy cam up her. Would ave been nice to see mid to low 14's on slicks. But like I said, I should really be putting the effort into the others. This was only meant to give me my OSF fix until I sorted the others. Then I got carried away :lol::lol:

I'm not 100% what to do yet. BUT, I have always wanted a nice Mk1 & Anglia van to run. But then they're ten a penny-ish..

Keep it! This one requires no work at all and is an instant headturner. You can work as much as you want on the others, take it as you have a car for every mood

Okay Mick ....will let you off then :lol::lol: I thought you were selling up and moving onto pastures new and not so OSF  If it gets your new projects moving then it's a good idea and someone will be lucky and get a lovely car :ykt::thumbsup::mrgreen::beer::beer:

I don't mind the work. It keeps me occupied. Space and time to drive em all is the issue..

OMG Jo, noooooooooooo!!! I couldn't possibly ever go OSF-less :lol::lol: I've been into em far too long to start going without now :ykt::mrgreen:

This is a really tough decision. It'll be a very sad day if she does go..:sad:

I've had both the Mk1's for ages. I need to justify all the time I've spent tripping over em. Plus, I feel I owe it to them & myself to finish em properly & use em. Plus I always thought I prefered Mk1's over Mk2's (Until I built this one  )

I know of someone that will be almost suicidal now you might be selling as he's recently just bought one because yours was'nt for sale

I think you're on about sprocket??? I mentioned it to him a few weeks ago but I think he was busy doing house renovations etc

What Mk1's do you have now ? Are they standard or lotus mex etc?

As you know i sold my Ghia last year to try something different which has ended up with me having nothing to drive this year but a load of projects in the workshop

If you could pick, which mk1 would you sell, perhaps that might be the way to go ?

1x Anglia van

1x MK1 Escort

1x MK2 Escort

If it's only space then i think it's what i would do personally as your MK2 is just so nice (without the dented rear 1/4)

thanks for your concern mate

Mick very kindly offered me the car a while back but the time wasn't right :( if i had the money now I'd snap it up, it is the inspiration for mine, hope I do as good a job as Mick

I too thought one of each would be a good idea.

However I'm not too sure which Mk1 I'd sell. The Lotus is a lovely thing but not massively quick. (under wraps for now but full details on here in due course  ) The blue/white Mk1 is a very solid base. Just needs wings & paint. I planned to stuff it full of YB turbo. I want something that makes me grin then poo..:lol::wink:
