sitting_budda Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Ok its been a while since I last drove the escort properly and alot has changed since then. Ive fitted the following: 2.4 quickrack 1760 xflow vulcan engine running twin 45s Anti dive/ doublewidth kit Bias Box Line Lock Recon &strengthed english axle with 4.1 ATB LSD I drove it last weekend to bromley pageant and it was all over the place - literally. Now this was largely due to tracking being miles out (toed out!!) Last night adjusted it so that it is roughly right (ever so slightly toed in- will be getting this set up at a garage fairly soon, hopefully along with 4 wheel alignment to check the axle is straight.) The problem I get is that when I ease off the throttle from 40/50+ mph the whole rear weaves side to side (can be quite violent). surely this isnt the LSD??? Any suggestions? Have a xframe kit to fit which might help, but i want to know if there is something glaring obvious I have missed. I havent fitted adjustable TCAs yet, do I need these after fitting the anti dive/double width kit?

razersedge Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 my mate had the same problem and the only thing he has the same as you is the atb lsd it all started when he put 7j revs on with 175 50 13 tyre's he changed every bush and ball joint and put roller tops on to change the toe on the front wheels and new shocks and springs and it still did it he took the wheels off to sell the car and put 6j rs wheels on with 185 60 13's on and it stopped doing it and we never worked out what it was that caused it. But you saying what you have and having the same problem leads me to think its the diff i do no that if you have lift off then the car will spin it the air and i wonder if this is the cause with heavy braking on the 175 50's by the way i would say that you have 7j rims with 175 50 13 tyres

sitting_budda Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 hmmmm strange because I am using RS 4 spokes 13x6J running a539 185/60s. Maybe I need to take the wheels off and put them back on again??? I know the nuts are tight though. It was fine with my old standard axle. The problem is that ive changed so much that its hard to know where to start trouble shooting. Wasnt sure if it was a result of the anti dive kit or lsd

ban1216 Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 My car did exactly the same thing if you throtle on hard it pulls one way and then when you back off the power it snaps back Horrible feeling Mine turned out to be nothing more sinister than the axle was moving because it wasnt tight enough in the ubolts so was twisting quite severely try tightening them up and take her out and give it hell
razersedge Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 just spoke to my mate and the braking problem was something else but his was swerving at 70+mph but he thinks the ridges in the road were part of the problem he said do you have adjustable top mounts or adjustable tca's if so then they might need adjusting in or out he said it was worse when the wheels were straight when put a slight camber on it it got better but when he changed the wheels it stopped completely. but as i said the wheels were on my car the car didn't do it. so hope this helps
bmxdave Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 It could be something simple like a missaligned axle. Loosen it off and retighten it. The diff would excagerate something like this. Is it the front or rear weaving?

Savvi Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 My van is doing the same all standard Rs200 running gear, i think it's the axle twisting. I've tighten U bolts and it got slightly better going to drop axle and re align it next. Just fitted new rack bushes etc on the front it made no diiferance.
