jamie k Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 could someone tell me the diffrence between over and under steer thanks
2.8i Cossie Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 over steer is when the back end of the car loses grib and the back wheels start to slide out. RWD cars are mainly the lucky ones to enjoy this as you can control it to drift corners Understeer is when the front wheels lose traction and start to slide out, if you were tight into the corner and it understeers you will start to slide the nose out from the apex and towards the other lane....this can be shit scary! the only one you can have fun with is oversteer which most old fords are famous for! *now i hope i havent left myself open for correction!*
2.8i Cossie Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 try looking it up in Wikipedia...i would link but i need to post more
jamie k Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 got all a needed to know to solve a debate at work thanks mate , must admit drifting scares the shit out of me but it is my first rwd car and couldnt bear having it written off
2.8i Cossie Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Drifting either intentionally or accidently requires a lot of concentration. I have drifted my wifes MX5 too many times accidently and had a few brown mark moments but when you have a bit of space its definately fun! I must say tho everyone has told me that cappas are seriously tail happy so ill have to go easy till i get used to the power and lenght! *insert own pornographic comment*
jamie k Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 got mine for the weekends just but always vowed never to drive in the wet , done it once never again
2.8i Cossie Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 well 20 days till i pick mine up when i return from holiday. got my V5 through today and insurance kicks in 10th july (due to age restriction) so the end of this month ill use about £100 in fuel enjoying the 28i cossie!
jamie k Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 dont know if itll be any help but try bell insurance insured mine in my name fully comp all extras including drive any other car thats insured, plus breakdown cover for 1600 unlimited millage for the year mind you wouldnt quote on a mk2 rs2000
Supercharged Nat Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 cappas are tail happy, anything over 130 bhp and itl slide a piece of piss. mine in the wet is leathal, i wont even drive it in snow or ice! int he dry its just about controllable! as already said, with enough space it can be a lot of fun!
2.8i Cossie Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 only quote i got out of 25 companies was with sureterm! 600 quid 3000 miles limit and all mods declared.... everyone else just hung up when i said 'it used to be a 2.8i capri...it now has a 24v BOA engine out of a Granada....hello?'
Trevmk3 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 as was said on Top Gear " understeer is when a fwd car trys to take a corner and kills you by going straight on through the hedge forwards into a tree" and "oversteer is when a rwd car trys to take a corner and kills you be going backwards through the hedge into the tree"
Toby Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 as was said on Top Gear " understeer is when a fwd car trys to take a corner and kills you by going straight on through the hedge forwards into a tree" and "oversteer is when a rwd car trys to take a corner and kills you be going backwards through the hedge into the tree" I though understeer was what short people did......
