i know its been asked before but i cant decide on what to do...

im building a 1700 xflow and its gonna have balanced bottom end, stage 2 head, 234 cam, 1300 +90 pistons.

i have a set of rebuilt dellorto twin 40s to go with it but i was reading about bogg brothers bike carbs the other day and now its got me thinking.

I can decide weather to go with the 40s or go down to bogg brothers and get some bike carbs.

I know the sound of twin 40s cant be beaten but i dont really wanna become best friends with my local petrol station.

Ive spoke with v6col already but i just wanted tog et a few more opinions to help me out some more...(before i go down to boggies)

Opinions/advice people?

bike carbs mate, but i would'nt bother with bog bros mate, just make your own manifold and buy ye carbs off ebay, cost you about £100 instead of 500 or whatever they charge. although there alloy manifolds do look the nuts :?:?

either way for reliabilty id go bike carbs

im thinking for reliability and fuel saving issues.

with the price of the go go juice now i dont think i can afford to keep the twin 40s juiced up and i heard bike carbs are good for economy :?

If you can get away without piston cut outs - yes I know Kent say you need them with a 234, but do a dummy build with plastercine. You need at least 1.5mm between the valve and piston. If you can get away without cut-outs the extra compression will help with the economy - I have run this set up, but not all engines are the same so check!!

You are raising the effective compression ratio on light throttle which in turn helps with the economy aswell as the performance.

Now you still have the decision about carbs, or bike carbs!

Sorry no help but was relevent.:thumbsup:

And whatever you fit, a RR session will pay dividends.

cheers toby. my pistons are already pocketted out for up to a 244 cam  they were that way when i bought them.

when tis built itll go to bogg brothers for a RR tune up anyway. he is the only one around here and the best.

now which carbs

Dont just assume twin carbs are bad on fuel mate, its all in the set up.

I appreciate my engine is totally different from yours but im getting 22-25mpg plus on a 170HP engine with twin 45's

Maybe thats not that good, but its nearly twice what i get out of the impreza!!

i get 30+ to the gallon out of my 48's with 220 bhp xe on a run, ok that is driving at 70-80 but i depends on how you drive it i get less to the gallon on a run out of the 1.3 fiesta i've got, but if you drive every where with your foot to the floor then you will need shares in bp

now im back to sqaure one with which to choose

i was swaying towards bike carbs but now im sat back in the middle again

i had the same problem when i wanted to fit a throtle position sensor did i get a new set of 48's or throtle bodies but i went for 48's because they are more responsive because carb's are and that is what i want a ford to be, look at what you want a ford to be and your answer will be there :lol::lol:

I thought bike carbs were just a cheaper alternative to twin webers/del'lortos.

With twin carbs you still have a barrel per cylinder - same with bike carbs

twin carbs are easier to fit (and you've already got some!!!!)

i would think of some more reasons but my brain hurts

so go buy a focas st :lol::lol:

if i wanted a volvo powered car id go buy a volvo (i already have  ) the focus st is just a down specced volvo engine.

ive heard twin carbs are a bitch round town and in traffic etc and i do quite a lot of town driving :?
