Ford are doing my bloody head in

One of my cars was built in 1972 but registered in 1973

DVLA have said if I can prove it was built in 1972 it will be tax exempt

So I tell them I have a letter from the AVO Owners Club stating this, they say that it needs to be a letter from Ford

So 3 phone calls to Ford later, they say the car is not on there system as its over 15 years old and to ring my local Ford dealer, they tell me the same and say they can't help

I offered to take the car up so they can see the plate for themselves with the codes to confirm the build date and they can then give me a letter for the DVLA but no that's far too much hassle for them.............

Looks like I will have to tax the car

As I work in a main dealer for Peugeot we have tie ins with other dealers I have just called my local dealer and explained the situation and have been advised that tax is from date first registered as we all know, HOWEVER, they have said that if the DVLA have stated that if you have proof that the vehicle was built before that they will change it the guy I spoke to said its got to be worth a try he gave me the name of the person in his dealership to talk to so give them a ring.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Usually a letter from a recognised owner's club will do it. Might be worth your joining one.

she tried the AVO owners club

thats a hard one, seems the DVLA are being useless t0ssers as usual. I have regsitered vehicles with owners club verification before. How do they deal with vehicle manifacurers that have long gone out of business now days then?

I dont think that your local dealer will be much use, better off going through the ford main office (where ever that is). tyou local dealer is only interested in selling u parts or new cars  plus in my experience in them getting parts for new cars they are pretty useless

John, I did ring Ford (the main one) first and it was them that told me to ring the local dealer

Cisco24uk I think you may have helped me sort it, spoke to Michelle and she is just checking the vin coding with her manager and will send me a letter confirming it was 1972, she is calling me back if there is any problem

It is def 1972 on the vin as the code says MS which is 1972 November

Just seems my local dealers are shite!

Hmmm birchwood in eastbourne are useless, took 3 attempts to get the right intercooler pipe for my 51 plate mondeo untill i looked at the computer myself and realised the numpties working there were looking at a v6 engine when mine was a diesel (as i told them) not many intercooler pipes on the v6  complete fooking numpties the lot of them, incredible to think that that is their day job!

hope u get it sorted tho

John, they were really helpful

Just declared it as SORN whilst I sort this and the bloke I brought it off, hasn't declared it SORN since Nov 2006 or taxed it :roll:

A screen came up telling me.

Yeah when I sorn'd Orville it said that there has been a big gap since it was last taxed/sorn'd.

Something like July 2006 :shock::roll:

With the historic taxation of vehicles, it is the manufacture date not the date of first registration that is the date that is critical. The Anglia Club have a member who is our contact with DVLA.

If they say no, write to them again and say yes yes yes!

Y=They will only change the taxation class of a vehicle that is being taxed, not if it is currently SORN.
