since the weather has warmed up, i turn my car off and it runs for a few seconds afterwards, coughs then stops.

 

whats all that about? is it like evaporating fuel keeping it going?

it doesn't do it any good mate so sort your iming out and if it does it again make sure you stall it with the clutch, in gear :wink:

i think when its over running like that it's actually running backwards :?

Sounds like your engines overheating causing pre ignition. Basicly the combustion chamber is so hot its igniting fuel with no spark like a glow engine. Something you don't want as it puts a lot of stress on the crank and conrods.

Pre -ignition is pinking not running on (sometimes referred to as dieseling).

 

As said, check your timing and carburation out thoroughly.

Possibly a better fuel would help, optimax (V power)

 

Years ago my Cortina used to do it if I filled up at a certain petrol station.

that makes sense as i noticed the carb spit exhasut fumes :shock:

 

think its because iv been using fuel additive
