I have been trying to find out more abount my engine because sourcing the correct parts is becoming a pain!

 

I have been told that I have an early Pinto because the rocker cover uses the skiny cork gasket and the later ones used a much wider one

 

So I am looking for a water temperature sender for my engine, I have looked on Burton's web site and they say it should be a white type and the later one's were yellow. I checked mine and its a black one

 

I am pretty sure it is an early engine as the conversion was done years ago according to the info that I have found so far.

 

Any idea's guy's

im goin thro the same thing mate, altho yours is for sure an early pinto if it has the thin rocker cover edge.

i dont know what colour your temp sender should be ill try to remember to look at mine as i have a old pinto and a new one

By early he means pre sierra (83/4 ish)

Temp sender depends on what car it is not nesersaraly the year and is governed by the dash, let me know the car and i'll check the parts book

Spot on It doesn't matter what car it came from or what age the engine is, it's all down to what temperature gauge you're going to connect to it.

 

edit: if it's an early pinto it will be narrow gasket but the cam cover could have been changed at any time in it's life. Early ones will have 2.0 cast into the block, not the later three digit numbers like 200, 202,205, 207

Disconnect the wire from the sender & connect it the -ve on the battery... if your guage is working it should shoot up to overheating

You need a sender to suit your dash board not the engine
