Wing mirrors, do you need them for a MOT?

Hi all,

 

Well my mk1 Escy has just failed its MOT, for a few reasons!

 

but one of them was beacuse i dont have wing mirrors.

 

has anyone had this problem before?

I cant remember off the top of my head, but i'm sure that prior to 1972 you can get away with just an interior mirror... Infact, thats a lie, i bought a completely original Mk1 1974 and it had no door mirrors. He can't fail it if you have an interior one. If he does, ask to see "the bible" and get him to show you where it states that it is a fail.

Chances are that he read it wrong

my 1971 escort came without wing mirrors. even on todays cars i think you only need two out of the three

On modern cars you need a combination of the offside door mirror and one of the remaining two. On older cars (i cant remember the cut off) you only need either an interior or an offside door mirror.

My mates' *cough* Manta A *cough* is an L-reg which makes it 73 and has only interior mirror and flies through the MOT's.

yea interior mirror you have 2 have, and as far as im aware thats the only 1 u have 2 have

I tested an anglia that only had int mirror and that passed!!

My 1974 Alfa wasn't available with wing mirrors, (though I fitted them recently) but until then it had never failed an MOT on the fact that they weren't there.

Our works van is a 54 plate and it has no interior mirror
