yeah master cylander leaking, get it off quick before the oil goes into the servo

do i have to drain the system to take the master cylinder off?

& how do i fix the leak once it's off?

sorry for all the newbie questions but i'm a newbie you see :?

yes you will have to bleed the hole system you can rebuild the cylinder or fit new one i'll have a look though my records later and see if i can find the phone number for the company that supplyed my rebuild kit

cheers for the quick responses people, i'll have to buy a brake bleeding kit then, i've never done it before

is it just a matter of replacing seals and filling the system back up then?

been looking this job up on t'net & haynes manual, looks like i don't have to bleed the entire system?

just attach a bleeding kit to a bleed screw & pump the brake pedal till the reservior and cylinder are empty. take the master cylinder off, replace the seals, master cylinder back on, fill reservior up with brake fluid, bleed it through the system till there's no air bubbles & bob's yer aunties live in lover!

please tell me that's the way to do it cos it sounds like not too bad a job as long as i don't spill any brake fluid (how much will i need btw?)

p.s. sorry for being such a newbie

thisplace here does kits > http://www.brakeparts.co.uk

only £7.43 as well

the best way to do em i think is to buy 1 of them cheep bleeding kits(like a tune with a bearing in the end) and get some one just to watch it as u pump the pedal for air.

as for the amount of fluid required hmmm from an empty system id say 1ltr + 1ltr for bleeding perposess :)

i had this problem but it was leaking on the other side ov the servo.ive seen the rebiuild kiyts but cant understand how to open the cylinder,it looks like a sealed unit.so i bought i new one and i had to sell my left bollock to afford it.

i had this exact problem last week.....and it had eaten my paint on the chassis rail and inner wing before i saw it :evil:

i had replaced the seal few years ago but wasnt going to pay another £25 for seals....so i replaced the master with a new one i had kicking around for a few years.....had to mod it slightly to get it to fit....but no problems since :D

good luck sorting it

EDIT this is where i got my seals from www.pastparts.co.uk

yeah the web site is a bit of a pain, if u got asfar as the brake masters u gotta click on the type u have then theres an ACCOCIATED button , click that and ur see em? or alternitively give em a ring....

think the one u want is part no:BMS1272 bore size 19mm?

u might need to check that as they do 2 , 19mm and 20.5mm i think?

there's a few different ones, i'm not sure which size mine is?

is the number on the side of the master cylinder important? it's 74666220 if it helps!

i think i might have to take it off first and make sure by taking it to a friendly local garage, he might be able to get the parts for me or even a new master cylinder. still need to get a bleeding kit though

Master cylinder should have the size cast onto the side of it, to get the seals out you need to remove the master cylinder and remove the internal circlip and the insides will come out with a tap
