After hearing that many cities did not want to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights, so DIDN'T! After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its opinion and let a Muslim doris have her picture on her driver's licence with her face covered. After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told that for PE they could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa,Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England shirt as it could offend others ! This prompted the editorial below written by a UK citizen. Published in a British tabloid newspaper. IMMIGRANTS. NOT BRITONS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on London , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the dust from the attacks has barely settled and the 'politically correct' crowd begin complaining about the possibility that our patriotism is offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain . However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.. This idea of London being a multicultural centre for community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britons, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of wars, struggles, trials and victories fought by the untold masses of men and women who laid down their lives and one of the millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! 'In God We Trust' is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If St.George's cross offends you, or you don't like ' A Fair Go', then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great British freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'. We didn't force you to come here. If you don't like it GO HOME!! You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted. Pretty easy really, when you think about it. I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers, lets all try, please.
mk1super Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Couldnt agree more mate, its like that up in Scotland too if your a Junkie a Pollack or 16 and pregnant you get anything you want, my mate has did nowt but work all his life and he needs a bigger house for his family and the council have no house to give him, and the fella has never broke law just a good honest hard workin bloke. This country sucks

I'm in my last year of school and every year the school has more Asian people than white, when i mention the school i go to you get ' you go there ' i have nothing against them but everything you said is more a less true! I'm not a racist person but i stand for my country and beliefs, if a British person was to move to Spain they would try to learn the lingo but you get immigrants coming into our country thinking they can live for free and do what they want!

Ask any Arab (specially Iraqis), Polish, Chinese or Asian person who has come to settle here and I bet you won't find any one of em that says they are offended by our ways. Imagine this, you go to live in another country, and find the government there is obsessed with how YOU feel about a foreign culture, not encouraging you to fit in. How would you feel? Embarrassed? Confused? The less nice people amongst the immigrant population would take advantage, and whose fault would that be? So, I think it's time we the voting people made it clear this is not what we want, as it's not even what the immigrants coming here wants either! Don't blame the polish or Muslims or whatever, believe it or not they don't actually make the laws.

I’m an Englishman and proud to be, although sometimes it’s hard to be but why the hell should I be frowned upon for being patriotic. It’s about time this country of ours stopped arsing about and put the “Great” back into Great Britain.

Guest chriscapriman Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 this is how it starts but later there is running and screaming... ...and concentration camps joke but all seems a bit of media hype to me i agree, we sould not dilute our culture to accomodate or appease foriegn nationls and our recent influx of immigrants needs to be addresed and possibly stopped, at least until we manage to ensure our services like schools and hospitals can cope with our current levels of populaion , but storys of local councils/organisations dis-encouraging st georges day celbrations and christmas etc are wildly unfounded imo. someone show me hard evidence (e.g. a copy of memo to staff or sumthin NOT a newspaper article reporting this with no evidence), not hear-say and 'my mate told me...' bollox of this, and i will say its out of order, but its too easy to believe tabloid hype of asylum seekers and immigrants taking over and destroying this country, which are utter shite (or at very least extremely rare and if so ill advisd) but seem to sell papers (especialy the sun and daily mail/express).
