the 1800 cvh seems to go realy cheep on ebay cos its not a common choice whereas the zetecs and pintos and all that go for alot more im not convinced everyones cvh hating is justifed the pinto wheres cams too, depends how the engines is looked after

Me old man prides himself on his 2ltr CVH Escort.

He rebuilt his original 1.6 CVH using a 1.9 American CVH block overbored by Ferriday Engineering.

Fully opened up, Ported and Polished head by Cylinder Head Developments.

Using its original efi management and calibra turbo injectors made 142 Bhp and 147 Ibs Torque on the rollers...next up throttle bodies.

 

is that in a mk1 or 2 escort

Why make a ZVH, because the 2v head flows better than the 4v head, and its much easier to make a 2l turbo engine using a Zetec bottom end and bolting a CVH turbo head and bits on,

The only CVHs I have come across have been Turbo things my son has owned, Not only are they good for getting speeding tickets, the sump gasket will keep the bottom of the car from rusting as you put any boost on the engine and most of it goes into the sump after 5000 miles

Kinda liked the idea of puttin it as a RWD lump in me Zephyr, Turbo`d, but its to higher compression...il stick to me V6.

was just wondering cos brought a pritty decent 1800 cvh out a seirra on a spur of the moment trip to ebay for £2.20 and was thinkin of putting it in my mk 1 to give it abit more grunt till i can aford to N/A cossie it

Think of them as 2 different engines FWD and RWD.

the FWD are good for tuining and go well in a light FWD car, the RWD units are shit for tuining and go slow in a heavy RWD car, simple really :thumbsup:

If you want to tune a RWD car there are far better engines to start with IE pinto for the larger cars and Xflow for the smaller (escort) ones, people can waffle on about BHP all day long but the fact is in RWD format the CVH just dont produce the torque needed to get a heavy car going and in a lighter car a Xflow is cheaper and easyer to get the same power from :mrgreen:

 

As for the ZVH well you wouldn't put a 1.6 head on a 2.0 pinto and claim it was a step forward would you ? :lol:

I would say go for it if the engine doesn't smoke and it's got good compresion in all cyclineders if not bin it because it's not worth the agro on the plus side that is a really cheap and good price to pay for a type 9 :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

you would if it was a RST head with a fuckoff big turbo attached to it :mrgreen:

 

you can get these ZVH's producing HUGE power...

also it would sort of be an 8V zetec, and i like 8v for low down torque which 16v's just dont seem to have these days. i know you then have to face a bit of turbo lag but would be well worth doing IMO

Cracking engine.just need to convert to solid lifters...

 

and as for the cam being a service item aint so bad, they take less than 30 mins to replace!

mine had solid lifters and twin DCNFs, revved like a chainsaw and loved it to bits.
