didnt you check the car over before you bought it? just as much blame should go to the buyer for not checking the vehicle over properly !

there are a cupple of things i missed but how can you tell if a car has an atb diff and a 2.1 pinto buy looking at it the things he lied about are the things you would have to take some ones word on cos theres no way of telling and no not scotland

WHen buying a car that isnt factory standard, ie new car, you the buyer have to check the car, the ones you bought it from may have no more knowledge than you,

I have people come in here and say 'look what i've bought, the old boy didnt know what he had, its go twin webers, anti tramp thingiy and a sprts exhaust '

Nope thats a twin choke weber, thats an anti-roll bar, and the exhaust is blowing from the over axle join and melting your fuel pipe!!!

Can we ask how much you payed? and what was the asking price, and if the asking price was under 5k , i would have been saying theres no way its got all that in it , but if it was cheap, you've got a bargain.

Are you still looking to have the alarm fitted ?

When i spoke to you on the phone i did say to you that the previous owner did not know much about Escorts and think it was the previous people that filled his head with Bu**s**T. I also believe (my own opinion )that he sold it because he kept having problems and the car was in much worse condition mechanically when he 1st got it.

Speaking to you on the phone it sounds like you at least know a lot about these and will get it sorted although it might cost you a few quid

yeah to be fair if he may have been fed the same bull himself if he was non the wiser. all depends on price doesnt it

Its gareths old car isnt it? 2.1 is in it..

Apparently not !!!

It had problems a short while after being sold, when it was stripped down i think it was found to be a normal 2 litre with no mods

theres a difference between checking the vehicle over and giving it your own mot before you drive it away. you cant tell what the wiring is like until you undo the metres of tape like we did

I agree on this tho because it should be down to common decencey, if the person selling it doesnt know what they have got then it would be their duty to do some research to save ripping themselves off or they should hold their hands up and say "mate Im not too sure, but what I do know is..."

And on the other hand what about the poor fella buying the motor, or if its an inexperienced young fella whos saved up all his hard earned money and is dying to get himself into his 1st ever oldskool ford only to blow every penny he's got to get it home and find that he's been misled into buying a patched up rotbox with half the bits he thought he was getting to be missing or wrong? Personally I feel for the heartbroken little lad

Honesty is the best policy I say as were all in it for the love of old fords so why rip eachother off???

As it goes, I think the actual shell and general look of the motor youve got there is bloody tidy mate and lets face it thats the most important bit, plus most people want a 4.1 and if not I'l swap u for my 3.9, be interested to know what the price for the car was? Nice one anyway mate

The car was advertised on here for quite a while, and got sold for some where near i believe.

As said i think the general condition and bodywork is excellent and in my opinion worth what it was sold for, but i can also see the point that was trying to be made about buying / selling without knowing or proving full spec.

If your not sure that your capable of checking a car then get someone along who can.

I've had people ask the seller to meet at my place. I tend not to encourage it if its a casual forum member or someon out of the blue. And heres me being honest, if its an up and running car i'm not going to be working on it .. if its a shell on a trailer and its being bought to mod..then yeah, i'll look for free, but time is money, i'll look over a shell for a drink, that takes care of the 20 -30 mins of looking at the car, then i loose 2-3 hours as they look at the cars in the workshop

If your going to look at a car get someone along who isnt going to be impressed by paint and shine. Someone whos got a car, whos built a few, I'm sure Kev mk2, Cossymax, in the east end would look, V8Ian in Norfolk, etc etc will all have a look for you if they can, just ask on the forum....

I'm going to look at a car on Friday, anyone want to do me a favour and have a look with me as i havnt a danny la rue of what to look at

buy them some chips and a beer on the way, and everyone could be a lot happier
