evil knievel Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 any more details?? whats in there now, what are you looking for, like performance or mpg or what? both of the engines have lots of tuning potential but i think you have to have an engine control unit with the zetec? maybe some one can confirm that.
chrisd Posted October 26, 2008 Author Report Posted October 26, 2008 No engine at all in at the moment, tho i have a mildly hot pinto engine bolted to a 5 speed box either engine will be on 45s and i want what everyone wants reliable fun mabye a few track days gonna get the chassis ,suspension and brakes bob on so cash is gonna be tied up there my plan is to have 300 bhp either from a yb or duratec eventually so the decision now will have effect on what engine i get in the end
evil knievel Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 thought of turbo charging a pinto?? pinto engines are good to tune, and cheap too. reliable as well. speak to WPE, word on the street is they are pretty good...
Fast eddie Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 expensive convertion to turbo your pinto, i looked into it not long ago!
evil knievel Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 VEEEEEEEEE EIIGHHTTTTT! nahh, would say pinto myself. old skool engine in an old skool car just makes sense to me!
stickerboy Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 I am in the same position at the moment. I do not know what engine to put in my 1600 Sport. It's gone away for panelwork. I'm tempted to go Duratec route but not sure of cost? I would say to you though go zetec or duratec.
evil knievel Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 well pinto or zetec would be the easiest/cheapest. still think pinto though.
glenbo Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 im just in the process in gathering the bits i need to fit a zetec in my mk1,to me it seems cheaper than tuning a pinto and more instant power with bike carbs fitted
J_mk1 Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 zetec is more expenisive. but i liked the idea so i went for it
Nettles Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 VEEEEEEEEE EIIGHHTTTTT! V8 gets my vote
glenbo Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 zetec is more expenisive. but i liked the idea so i went for it well that depends i got my engine for nothing and fabricated some parts myself
caprinerd Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 zetec is more expenisive. but i liked the idea so i went for it i was at a local breakers and asked about a ztech they had still in motor engine and loom £150 different breakers s.ierra 2.0 pinto £125 so pays your money takes your choice mate im a pinto lover but seen a couple of cappers running ztechs on bike carbs and really starting to think about it myself
billynogloves Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 go with the pinto mate ive put a zetec in my anglia alright its only standard with a downdraught about 120 horse but my rs2000 feels to av loads more touque and its standard wot you'd spend puttin a zetec in could buy you a decent bhp pinto
Retromotorsport Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 go with the pinto mate ive put a zetec in my anglia alright its only standard with a downdraught about 120 horse but my rs2000 feels to av loads more touque and its standard wot you'd spend puttin a zetec in could buy you a decent bhp pinto But that decent bhp pinto wont be on a single downdraft ....
kirk10 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 im at the same point now dont no what engine to go for pinto seams the popular choice
chrisd Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 So what do you reckon retro msport
J_mk1 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 i think alot of people are slightly biased towards pintos here, becuase there as soo many stonking ones about that can do awesome times down the strip - something this site is a big part of i.e. drag racing however there are very few 'sorted' zetecs out there. most people just bolt them in with a set of 45's and enjoy the easy 160 bhp, or 170/180 with cams i recon if you put the same work into a zetec as you did a pinto (2.1 forged pistons, high compression, big valve ported head etc) you would see in excess of 220bhp - N/a cossie figures easy. Not bad for a 200 quid lump imo

J_mk1 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 mine was, oh but an st170 wouldnt if thats the point your trying to make fair enough.
lee 1 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 No what i was saying is that if you want a 2.1 with forged pistons big valve head race cams ect you will need a bit more than £200
kirk10 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 whats the cost of the parts to fit a zetek in a mk1 escort to put a pinto in is pritty straight forward and cheap
J_mk1 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 No what i was saying is that if you want a 2.1 with forged pistons big valve head race cams ect you will need a bit more than £200 well to get a pinto to the same spec its 2.5 k and thats without carbs
