ok ive got my fr30 cam, new followers, spray bar and bum.... sorry cam lube..

can anyone advise me on valve clearances and timing, do i just set everything to stock settings?

and whats with all the cam lube? theres gallons of it !

just one more thing, in the manual it says to fit the small o ring onto the spray bar where it sits inside the head on the centre pillar, but there isnt one in my gasket kit!

i set things up as standard and then fine tweak timing after its running mate, and as for the lube can never have enough lube make sure you really coat it all tony more is better

my mate fitted my first kent cam & i did'nt rev as you should do when you fit a new cam to harden them & it only done 50 miles before it wore a lobe down so make sure you run the cam in when you've fitted it. can't help with fitting though im afraid :beer:

but the cam lube is so thick and gooey, isnt there a risk of clogging oilways?

use the lube as it is it will break down as it warms up also make sure you use a O ring as if you dont the cam will starve of oil due to oil passing out around the hole instead of being feed through the spray bar. settings should have came with the cam

cheers mate,

gettin a bit worried at mo, just setting valve clearances but as i turn the engine over to set the next clearance as the cam turns its marking/slightly scoring the lobes, ive got plenty of lube on them.

the head is on the block and plugs removed..

I woulda thought the lobes would get marked slightly as they're still 'soft' and not work-hardened and bedded-in yet. Are the lobe surfaces still a bit dull? When things work-harden, they have a tendency to go shiny.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about it.

You talk about work hardening as if it's a good thing? Work hardening is what makes metals brittle and leads to fatigue failure. A new cam will not be soft at all, it will be case hardened.
