oh dear

you tried easystart oh dear engines become addicted to that stuff like a drug addict to smack, take the cap of the dizzy and see if you getting a spark check condition of your dizzy cap and rotor arm take the plugs out and put them in the leads and turn it over and see if they spark, have you moved your timming at all, is the petrol getting through, take the pipe off the carb and turn it over see if petrol comes out.

try them to start with

take all the plugs out, clean them up with wire brush and bit of sandpaper or something, spin the engine over (with the coil disconnected) incase its flooded full of fuel or something so it throws it all out, make sure theres a spark, and fuel going into the cylinders...

if you have fuel and a good spark from the plug tip, its either timing or compression, nothing else it can be.

i had this before and it turned out to be because i had an electronic ignition coil and a points & condensor setup, the leccy ignition types need an ignition amplifier to give a decent enough spark

By checked do you mean changed...?

have checked gap and cleaned things up.

have cleaned the plugs up with wire brush and sand paper.

she has a weak spark

been told to try a wire straight from the battery to the distributor :?

if it has a weak spark then you may need some new leads, as they get old they break down and cause all sorts of problems. to be honest if they are old its worth replacing them anyway otherwise they will only pack up the next time your at a busy junction etc  sods law and all that

If it's getting a weak spark i'd be checking the voltage at the coil, 11-12V ish on cranking and 9 with the ign in the run position, if that checks out i'd sticking another coil in there, if the voltage is lower i'd be looking at changing the ballest in the coil feed as you say direct feeding the coil for a few seconds will highlught a ballest problem.

Note most electronice ignition coils need 12V all the time otherwise they wont run correct so get the propper ballest type coil

If you run a 12V coil at 12V all the time the points and condensor will burn out in no time, points need a ballested feed to coil

disconect the main ht lead and put a plug in it like you would with a normal plug check turn it over and see if you have a week spark if so change coil and check again, but under no circumstances use an electronic ignition coil, another thing might be a break down in the condenser i put new points and condenser in one of my cappers and a week later the thing wouldnt start turned out that the condencer was new old stock and broke down after 2 weeks of searching the prob

how do i check that? :?

sorry better at pratcal things then tech stuff

measure the voltage across the LT terminals on the coil with the key in run and start postions, it should read about 8 volts and 12 volts respectivly.

How are you sure it has a weak spark?

you lot are great will try the plug thing to check the spark thing with the main ht lead tomorrow if it is not raining.

love old skool ford you lot are so heplfull
