#Got a old shape 03 Astra 2.0dti that has been off the road for a month and now wont start ,fully charged battery and it just cranks for ever

Any ideas im loosing the will to live !

if its been sat there is a chance the fuel may have drained back to the tank so the fuel system may need primeing

if you left it sitting with the battery completely flat chances are the immobiliser has lost its tally with the ecu, i would say the key would need reprogamming to the car.

 

 

might be a silly question but does the key have a chip in it?

heater plug relay or injector leak down pipes i expect. TBH they aint very reliable those engines. do you have fuel rail pressure?

somewhere on the injector pump there will be a stop solenoid this could have stuck in the closed position, if you remove it you should be able to take the rubber plunger off the end of it, if it starts once this has been removed the solenoid needs replacing, bear in mind tho if it does start you wont be able to stop it on the key so you will have to stall it

there maybe a fuel pump reset swith in the drivers footwell (trying to think from when i had mine, but that was petrol, should be in the manual)

 

i think to reset your key you have to do something with it in the drivers door (holding it one way for about 5 secs or something) this is again in the drivers manual i think

Sounds like your injector leak off hoses , or injector seals worst case pump. dont be worried about using a bit of easy start to get it fired up, leak off hoses are the most common fault on the 2.0ltrs hope you get it sorted.

it would just keep on cranking and never start. some cars e.g. toyotas, or lexus' dont even crank.

never driven a diesel or looked under the bonnet of one so how am i supposed to know?
