DAZZA Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Dare to be different.... Or a run in with the plod?
countrybumpkin Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 i think you would get away with them on a american or oz motor but i dont think they would look right on anything else
richie_stix Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 i saw some matey who had a yank car, registered in the US but run over here... just to use the plates effort, but he was commited to authenticity!
stephens_xpack Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Put em on, whats the worst that can happen - you get told to take them off. But like other fella said may look a bit odd on a non septic motor.

(personal experiance)
Admin Vista Posted December 6, 2008 Admin Report Posted December 6, 2008 Worth a little research, but I'm pretty sure Daggle once advised that DVLA can take your plates off you as described above.
2.8i Cossie Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 if its anything like over here.....third strike and DVLA (or DVLNI or DVA) take the plate off you
2.8i Cossie Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Google FTW! The regs have changed again, this includes "Show Plates" as of 1st November 2008, Scotland and NI bring the whole of the UK to the same standard. If anyone supplies you with Non Compliant plates, they are breaking the law. It is already an offence for motorists to display non-compliant number plates on their vehicles. From 1 November 2008 it will become an offence to supply number plates that do not conform with the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 and the British Standard. This offence will apply throughout the UK and carries a maximum penalty of £2500 and/or suspension from the register for up to 5 years. The offence only applies to plates with a vehicle registration mark (VRM) issued by DVLA/DVA, it does not apply to plates without a VRM. For example, it will still be possible for car dealers to make plates showing the model of a car for use on a car in a showroom. These plates are not number plates in law and are outside the scope of the offence. It will be illegal to supply plates with the VRM mis-spaced to look like the name of an individual, non standard font/colour or with a slogan or message printed on them. The MOT regs will probably be sorted out soon, so more plates will become RFR. We have had a spate of Police tickets issued to people with Non Compliant plates ( we have to check the new plates are Compliant and stamp the ticket for the owner to take back to the Police Staion) so it looks like a crack down is taking place.
Mr Sam Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Worth a little research, but I'm pretty sure Daggle once advised that DVLA can take your plates off you as described above. was watching some cop show the other day these cops find a vectra that has been nicking fuel on modified plates (the owner had cut the letters to make) anyway the cops just took them off the car while it was parked outside the guys house
shakey n his fezz Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 yea police love em lol my mate got 3 points for em
Ken B Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Just bought a new plate from DVLA, and with it is a official hand out note INF79 referring to illegal plates. Quite clearly states that repeat offenders of incorrectly displayed numbers will lose their mark.
over_head_cam Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Would I be right in saying though, that if your car is old enough to have black and silver/white plates, then as long as it's legible then you would be OK?
Tom Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 I think prob not mate as you need correct size and spacing etc for the MOT. but i do know a v.nice tester that may consider them ok
Daggle Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 yea police love em lol my mate got 3 points for em Like to meet the cock of a copper who gave 3 points for number plates not being correct , another copper who hasn't got a clue and gives the others a bad name!! Oh and yes, you can't use those plates and ultimatily could end up with a Q plate
