As above guys has anyone got a video of their crossflow running which has a BCF3 Kent Cam fitted or if not could someone make a short video for me :mrgreen: pleasssseeeee........

 

I mainly just want to see how they tick over and a bit of how they rev up. Mainly because i dont want to go to all of the trouble fitting it to find out it isnt what i want (Rough Idling etc).

 

If you have or can make a video and post it up for me i would really appreciate it :thumbsup::D

 

If you could also let me know what carb/carbs you are running aswell that would be great :D

my brothers got one in his van,it's a bit lumpy on tickover ,but revs out ok,it's only on a twinchoke at the moment,just turn the tickover up little bit 100 higher maybe. :D

Sounds good what did he have to have it idling at exactly to get to tick over smoothly?

BCF3 is quite a hot cam, you can expect it to be a little lumpy, but it won't be so bad that you'd not want it, I'm sure :thumbsup:

 

Do you recon i should just put it in then?

 

I just dont want it ticking over really horrible and not being drivable anymore :lol:

It won't make the car undrivable m8 :thumbsup:

What capacity engine have you got?

 

A 1600 will cope better (ie it will see it as less "racey") over a 1300 so bear that in mind. :thumbsup:

Hi people it is a 1600 xflow its going in and also the cylinder head its going into looks to have had some porting done on the inlet but the valves are a standard size as far as i can see and it has double valve springs fitted :thumbsup:

i think you just take peoples word i have one in my cortina and she goes like shit off a shovel and ticks over fine, its going to be lumpy just part and parcel of having a cam, dont think you can have the best of both worlds.

It would just be really good if i could get a video of one running as it would make my mind up.

 

Its just the amount of work thats involved fitting the cam it makes me want to look at every aspect first :thumbsup:

The thing is, watching someone else engine is just that, its someone else's, they may have that bit, this bit, that timing, those jets, this size chokes and head done by ' well i stuck a die grinder down it ' or by Arron at HT ....

 

Theres some people on here that know stuff about engines, the quiet ones, your far better asking them the question ...

 

This is my engine at the moment, its got ...... (the spec now)

And this is my budget .... £(enter ammount)

What do i do next bearing in mind i want it to do ... then say what you want.

 

Its no good getting a screaming 9500 rpm race engine thats got naff all under 6000 if your driving the car on the road 90% of the time

If its a good tractable road engine that you need, then say this, leave the bhp figures to those who brag, and get what you need.

If you go onto Kent's web site you can down load the cataloge in pdf format. In their catalogue it lists the BCF 1, 2 and 3 and then states "there is no subsitute for the following range of cams" and then goes on to list the 224, 234, 244 etc. I agree that a cam change isn't the easiest of things on the X flow as it isn't dead accessible. I have fitted (after checking a 234 without piston mods and would recommend one)

 

I suspect you'll be happy with both cams but I think a 234 would be preferable. It's up to you though. What's your ultimate end plan? I believe the 234 will have a better spread of power all through the rev range, but you will have to part with some money..... :thumbsup:

I am really after something that will just give me that little bit more power but wont ruin the way the car runs and revs ups etc and i want it to be very drivable as i will be using it on a daily basis :thumbsup:

A 234 is a phenominal all-rounder, this means it falls into the rapid valve acceleration, high lift, short duration catagory. This type of grind tends to make more power at lower rev's than the alternative low lift long duration, large overlap. It is a more modern grind than a BCF (which it supercedes) - both cams would work best with 1300 pistons to give you around 10.5:1 compression - this will improve the drivability, reduce the camminess and give you better fuel economy. You seem concerned about the cam, and as you say it is fairly "buried" in the engine if you don't like it.

 

With a very little porting my old escort ran 15.95 on a 234 with a twin choke and 15.55 on twin 40's on road tyres, 4.11 diff, about 15 years ago when I first started playing engines. I appreciate these times are slow nowadays but it gives you an idea of performance from your sort of spec. The engine pulled from no where and felt like it revved forever, possibly because it was so strong low down....I imagine yours would be similar, you could do a little more porting (if experienced). :thumbsup:

 

BTW - when finished put it on a rolling road or get WPE to set it up for you. Best money you'll spend for fuel econemy, drivabilty, reliability.

I want a video of a brown mk3 cortina with a reg plate that starts ABC running a 60,000 miles 1.6 pinto engine that has a FR32 cam and a lightened crankshaft.

 

oh and it must have beige interior with a strawberry milkshake stain on the passenger seat base

Whatever you do get it set up on a rolling road. Even my standard 1300 was set up by bogg brothers on their rolling road and it did a world of good!

 

I was going to go for a 234 in my engine but decided that its just a play car so I dont mind if it idles a bit rubbish and isnt smooth like a new car round town so I went for the 244 which was a bit higher up the scale :twisted:
