no. As you cant smoke indoors in work areas now, the last thing a boss needs is someone clearing off every ten mins for a puff. While the real workers have to carry on working. That really used to pee me off at the last place i worked. Used to pee the boss off too. So he then only employed non smokers as staff left and needed to be replaced.

My old boss used to smoke like a chimney and was outside every 20 mins for a fag break. One friday afternoon I decided to go home at 2 O'clock, as predicted he was outside having a fag break and said

"what time do you call this?"

My reply?

"I've been saving up my fag breaks! "

He let me go and chewed me out on Monday morning BUT then announced that from now on there was to be no smoking except during official lunch and coffee breaks

I wasn't popular with the smokers, but they were in the minority anyway.

i hate that where i work as the smokers are aloud to go for a smoke outside when they want to, i got taken into the conference room by 'D managment' and shouted at because i stopped working for 5 mins and had a chat with a new apprentice

this no smoking buss is all bo**ic's just think of the money the government have lost since they brought it in.

people smoke less,as you cant smoke in a public place with out some tinker lol staring at you but it's your choice,

weather you smoke or not should not effect your right to apply for a job and the right to work their, who the f**k does this guy think he is god :lol::lol:

As a smoker I sometimes feel that we can be treated as second class citizens sometimes, but if the legislation and new rules help some people to give up, and protect non-smokers from second hand smoke then it must be a good thing.

I work outside most of the time so I'm fine ;)

phil the way i see it if they dont want to stand next to me when im smoking then f**k off some ware else :lol::lol:

i personal dont think their was a problem in the first place but we are ruled form overseas

even before the smoking ban if someone did'nt smoke they would'nt sit down right next to you any-way,

when i was younger and worked in place's that had canteen's you get your smoker's all in the one place usually by the window's and nu-smoker's in the other area,

now because of the smoking ban i dont go out drinking that often because i cant have a smoke with my drink

Then your mates should have some respect mate, i rarely smoke in a non smokers car unless given permission to do so, if you dont like the smell tell em not to smoke, a mate worth having will fully understand that.

they dont smoke, not a chance in hell i would let someone smoke in my car mate, wouldnt want them to drop it on the leather seats, its just that they smell smokey and the smell from them just lingers for a while after

As some one said even if you dont physically smoke in the car the smell of a smoker does linger after, non smokers will notice straight away. I suspect thats why it was put in the advert.

I'm one of only two non smokers at the current place i work at. I fookin hate getting in the lorries after the others have been in there as they absoulutley stink of fags. Plus there one dirty barsteward who hasn't washed in the last 5 years, it just makes you sick. Even though smoking in the cabs is now against the law, i dont report it, but my clothes reek of it when i get home, and it aint nice.

if it wasn't for us smokers this country would have even less money than it has now and they would have to get it from somewhere else, i.e. your taxes

Sorry but I'm pretty sure you're wrong Glyn. It won't count as discrimination at all as smoking is something that you do by choice.

Discrimination can only be claimed by an applicant for a job who is turned down (despite being the best applicant for the job) for a reason that he/she cannot control or change, i.e. race, colour, sex or disability. Smoking won't cut it as you choose to smoke and can quit if you are prepared to try.
