mk1mexico Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Computer novice strikes again Upgraded my Xp to Vista the other day, and now my SKY broadband wont work. It installed ok and all the wiring is the same,(ethernet cable not wireless) but its saying i have no 'network adaptor' installed on the PC?? There obviously is, because it worked fine on the XP. I reckon the network drivers i have, just arent compatible with the Vista. What can i do??
omj624p Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Why did you put Vista on? All that does is make things look pretty, but nothing ever works as well ever again, and everything takes 3 times as long to do! My advice would be to ditch Vista and go back to XP. Seriously! It sounds like you need an updated driver for your network card, and possibly some other bits too. But you need an internet connection to get them! Doh! All you can do now is use a different PC and download the drivers, put them on a memory stick and transfer them to your new Vista. That is providing the USB ports work. Steve
escort new boy Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 sounds like youve deleted the driver
mk1mexico Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 I bought a computer brnad new but built by a bloke, and it turns out he used a copy of XP. It wouldnt let any updates come through because it wasnt verified by Microsoft. Tried to get a verification code from a mate and he brought one for vista . So in the end we said so it put vista on. Can any one get me a link to a download as i have googled it and its totally confusing me My disc drive is working so i can use that instead of a memory stick yes??
flyingbanana Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 what vista are you running x32 or x64?....you can find that out in control panel/system ....makes a slight difference........... and on the other hand what make and model is your network card installed ...their could be a chance their might not be drivers out for vista......but if i know the details i can look..also have you updated?.....windows have their own drivers for network cards.also you ight be able to fool vista and still use your drivers that you used on xp..........its all sortable....most of the time edit:....is the network card a extra or one that's built into the motherboard?....if motherboard then you will need the motherboard drivers which would then sort your problem.....their is a few different types....so would need the motherboard make and model this program is good for finding out details you need http://www.lavalys.com/products/overvie ... UE&lang=en and another one ....not has good but similar http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
omj624p Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 It's often easier, quicker and cheaper to go and buy a new network card.

mk1mexico Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 Ok peeps here is what i have found out about my computer Asus case P5GC-MX 1333 (mother board??) SYSTEM Newage OS Processor-Intel®Pentium®Dual CPu E2180 @ 2GHZ Memory RAm 1GB System type 32 bit operating system. Please help me
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Hi mate, click the following link and you will be redirected to Asus' website. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5GC-MX/1333 There will be a box that pops up to ask you what operating system you want drivers for - select 'Vista 32bit'. Next, scroll down till you see 'LAN' & click on it. That section will expand and show you the available NIC drivers to download... concentrate on the top part which has this version number: Version 2.5.7.9/2.6.7.12. As you will see in the bottom right hand corner, there is a version date, which in this case is: 18/12/08. Next click on 'Global' next to the title 'Download From' and save the ZIP file to your hard disk. Open the ZIP file, extract it's contents to a folder of your choice, open the driver folder, then open the folder titled 'Atheros' and double click 'Setup'. This will now install the updated NIC driver for Windows Vista & should cure your problems. Good luck
mk1mexico Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Posted January 9, 2009 Thanks Jimbob, but im on works computer at the moment, i cannot get on the internet on my own PC, so would i have to save this data to a removable storage device?? i.e a CD??
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 If you have a flash drive you can save directly to that, but if you want to put it on a CD, you will have to save to the hard disk first & then burn to CD
