Lets put it perspective at the cost of oil, "IF" you use wrong oil and save £30 each oil change and do it every 10k, after 50,000 miles you have save on average £150, if however the oil is not suitable for the engine and it blows up after 50k the question is this...........

"CAN YOU BUY A 320d ENGINE FOR £150"??????????????

The specialized BMW oil is actually Q8 oil badged up as BMW's own so go on to the Q8 oil web site and find your local stockiest.

The stuff you are after is "Q8 10W-40 Advanced Diesel" or if you so desire "Q8 5W-40 Excel" which is supposed to give you better performance and better fuel economy but is still a BMW special oil!

Diesels run on different oil to petrols though don't they?

Scott is right, diesel and petrol oils are different. I was told that petrol oils put the crud into the sump and let it congeal there whereas diesel oils keep the muck suspended in the oil and being constantly pumped round...

And don't put any cheap shit oil in, would deffo be a false economy...

Diesel oils typically carry detergents in them, so it should all be nice and clean in there

the correct oil is 0w 30 Castrol SLX dont use a differnt grade or it sludges up. I think you can also use Castrol EDGE or Shell HELIX

I use 10w 40 'Diesel' oil in my crossflow, its nice and clean inside too, lol. Its also the wrong grade for my engine but sees the redline regulary and hasn't seized yet.

I get it free
