Airbag Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 On my 2.8i. Any ideas why? I've changed everything braking wise since owning the car except the front braided hoses!
mk14dr Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Giving them a good bleed would be my first port of call
Airbag Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 Giving them a good bleed would be my first port of call Already done that several times
Airbag Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 are your calipers seized?? Brand new and working
capritech Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 If you have just replaced discs and pads as well they will need beding in and will feel spongey for about 50 miles or so. Have you adjusted the rear brakes as this can make a load of differance. Hope this helps.

I have adjusted the rear brakes, and the callipers and pads have done over 1000 miles now so should be bedded in.
Mr Sam Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 shouldnt make a differance TBH but check the vacuum fitting that connects to the servo but as said in previous braking threads servos dont improve braking they just make it easier, so it probably wont be the cause
Mr Sam Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 another thing to think about is how good are your tyres?
hellblue Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Was the brakes bad befor you worked on them or has this started after ?? What pads have you used ? Have you replaced the master cylinder ??
Airbag Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 Was the brakes bad befor you worked on them or has this started after ??What pads have you used ? Have you replaced the master cylinder ?? The brakes have always been bad on this car. Pads are Wilwood polymatrix I've replaced the M/C twice now.
Airbag Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 another thing to think about is how good are your tyres? Brand new tyres 3 years ago all round and I have only done about 8000 miles on them.
razersedge Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 i've got the same problem with the fiesta i've replaced the disks, calipers, pads, drums, slave cylinders, shoes, flexie hose's, master cylinder and it still won't slow down from 30mph in 300 yards hence the reason the exhaust is bent from when i mounted the curb the only thing i haven't changed is the rear compensator (which i only found it had when i changed the flexie hoses). the hand brake works very well so if nothing else the rears should have locked up. has yours got a rear compensator p.s. has anyone got a rear compensator for a mk1 fiesta
vibrating_Cake Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 sounds stupid.... but drive round for 10-15minutes with you're foot lightly on the brake pedal.... get them pads nice and hot, then try braking hard! performance pads are hardly ever any good from cold and like to have a good couple of heat cycles through them before you see a propper benefit. also, see how the brakes feel when the pads are hottttttt, we used to run greenstuff pads in a few cars, believe me... they needed warming up before they were safe for road use some days!!!!
BIGKEV Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 I reckon its the front Braided Hoses hey it could be - they might have collapsed for whatever reason .
