why do some people that work at tyre fitting places or garages ( not aimed at all people that work at these place before people get all defencive) have to do the wheel nuts up on car so bloody tight and not actually torque them up like a normal person would.

went to replace the rear brakes on my vectra :shit::lol: and managed to break a feckin socket on the first one i tried :evil: . so i took it up to the local garage where i know the people for them to crack them for me and they struggled :evil: i would of been well and truely screwed if i had been in the middle of nowhere with a puncture.

really pisses me off that they dont take the care to do the job properly (dont know who has had the wheels off last as i only had the car late december)

managed to buy a nice new socket now which is a proper impact one so its not all bad

Rant over :lol::lol:

thats why i say they should torque them to the required setting :D

proably just use a air drill - i know thats what we do

but for about 3 minutes, a bloody gorilla couldnt of done them that tight :lol:

It would take alot longer though because they would have to find the correct torque settings for each car

doesnt take long mate, used to do it when i was in my apprenticeship at a garage :wink:

The impact guns are set to full and the torque wrenchs are set low. They go around the car with the torque wrench but aren't actually doing anything, it just looks good in front of the customer.

where i go they run it up with the gun, and then take it back a turn and then torque it

when my car went for a re-spray the lad put the wheels on wrong, he put the 2 205's on one side and the 185s on the other, should be 205 rear 185 front, but yeah, he did them up to distraction i had to go to a local tyre fitter, mate of my dads, and loosen off all the bolts, had to have his air gun on the max setting to get them off, he said when puttin them back on i should use the gun til it first ratchets and then tighten with a socket set so i would be sure i didnt over tighten them

youd be pissed off if they were doing say your cylinder head and just wizzed it up with a air gun and banged it on

point being they should do the job properly correct tyre pressures and correct torque setting on wheel nuts

it would only take a min to look at a wall chart

This is one thing that bothers me when the garage tightens the nuts too tightly and i have no air tools. It would be disastrous if you were stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Do you guys think that the boys at Kwik Fit actually knows the torque settings on each car? I doubt the cowboys know anything.

we torque them up at work :) had a car come in the other day from a tire company where they had stripped 2 studs and snaped another.. what a meal they made of them!!!!..joys of being a mechanic lol!

I've had loads of wheels come loose and it's bloody scary so I now carry a torque bar in the boot, just for my own piece of mind. But then I go see Gary and he does my tyres now so I'm in safe hands

me, the garage i go to, the tyre place i go to :lol:

clearly not

it wouldn't take two seconds to look it up though really :? i suppose they are just a bunch of cowboys who don't actually care about cars half the time... let alone customers.

no offence to anybody that works at a tyre place
