Chris! Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Yup i had tan seats in my mk3 and used halford vinyl paint and you cant tell they were ever tan:) £10 a can, you need about 2 cans to do 1 seat
bomber1 Posted May 14, 2009 Author Report Posted May 14, 2009 chris is it this vht stuff i found on frost website http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp? ... k%20(325ml)&catID=21&frostCat=Interior%20Trim&frostSubCat=&subCatID= are you taking that car to classic ford?
Supercharged Nat Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 you can get proper leather dye.. theres a specific process for changing the colour of leather thats perminate. beige would be the perfect base colour to start with too. the halfords vinyl paint cracks and peals off eventually, no matter how well you prep the material.
azz-bo Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 like nat said, theres propa dye. Use the stuff they do in the saddle makin trade.
bomber1 Posted May 14, 2009 Author Report Posted May 14, 2009 does anyone know off anyone that does this properly?
Chris! Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Well i have seats that were painted 4 years ago with the stuff from halfords and theyre still as good as new
andy a Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 There are several different types of leather, and each need a different process to clean or colour them, Nubuck, pull ups, pigmented protected and analines are just some of the types available with pigmented and analine being the most common, theres 2 simple tests to establish what type you have and to ensure that you get the right dye for the job and dont ruin the item your working on. I know a couple of people who stock standard dyes and can mix them to a custom finish at trade prices and in very low volume, will dig some numbers out and PM them if you want...

andy a Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Heres one site that mixes them, he's good as well, the name of the guy to speak to is Ben Sterack http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Colour_Charts.htm The other is Judy Bass at Leather training and Technical (LTT) http://www.lttsolutions.net/ both are very good, Judy is probably better at technical stuff but Bens slightly cheaper, if you contact them could you mention that Andy from the SCSF sent you in their direction as they tend to deal with trade customers but will know where you heard of them
