been watching them in the garden for the last hour, amazing creatures basically a flying mouse as i understand it so agile.. im fascinated

we got the rspca round and they sent some bloke that thought it was nats not bats, really danger brain, i dont do bats, yeah thanks mate

i used to have a pet bat of sorts used to come into my room every night flly round a bit then go to sleep on my window sill lol

 

 

 

 

but now we have about 4 living somewhere close by as they are always flying round the garden at night

I thought having a bat doing a couple of circuits of our living room last year was unusual, but reading this, its sounds that its not.

I think we had one in the living room too. Had a little flappy black thing come in through the window, did a swift U turn like oops, this is a mistake, and was back out again! One of the dogs (JRT, takes birds on the wing) Just stared after it gobsmacked!

Tie a stone in a hankerchief (make sure there are flappy bits of cloth hanging off it) and throw it into the air in front of a bat, the bat will spiral down after it to investigate - great fun! lmao

Where did you use to live? Africa?

 

Is rabies really over here though? Or is it an urban myth? If it was in bats, it would get into the wildlife population and there would be a mass culling.

I used to catch, weigh and record numbers and species of bats when I wasa a mad potholer, never got bitten........

One of my FB buddies is a bat monitor and she has never said anything to me about Rabies .....she came to investigate a tree in the village which had a preservation order on it and bats nesting in it or summat In the end the company chopped the tree down and paid a fine, but my neighbour was forever getting bats coming in her house. She's glad the tree has gone now

IIRC there was a outbreak of rabies in this country in the 70s, possibly in Surrey, and the Dept of Agriculture BLITZED the area, anything that could carry rabies was destroyed,

A quick check via Google confirms there was a death from Rabies in the UK----------------in 1902
